The Special Operations Department (N552) at MITRE is seeking a candidate for Strategic Planning and Business Process Engineering with strong technical and operational expertise. This role is vital as our program expands and adapts to the evolving challenges of strategic competition. N552 operates as part of a globally integrated team, working closely with other MITRE Departments to support the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) Headquarters, Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), the Service Component Special Operations Commands (SOCs), and the Theatre Special Operations Commands (TSOCs). Our goal is to work with the SOF Community to minimize risk, enhance mission success, and ensure the safe return of operators.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Qualified candidates will have a strong background in strategic planning, cross-functional leadership, and risk management. This position will involve working with diverse teams to deliver complex projects and engaging with sponsors to ensure successful project execution. The ability to navigate diverse cultural and organizational environments will be essential in fostering collaboration and driving continuous improvement within SOF and our partner Combatant Command (CCMD) work programs. Selected candidates will partner with the Special Operations Department leadership team, as well as the other strategic elements within the Joint Staff and CCMD Division to integrate tactical, operational, and strategic technological solutions in support of the warfighter. The candidate must be able to work collaboratively with MITRE technical teams, demonstrating strong teamwork and cooperation with Intelligence, Joint & Services, public sector, and other programs. The selected candidate will also be expected to work closely with military and civilian experts to address their critical mission needs; provide options which anticipate operational needs; and identify relevant emerging methods to address mission challenges.
Selected candidates will demonstrate the following:
Domain/Technical Competence. Demonstrate strong familiarity in two or more of the following areas: (1) Process Improvement, (2) Strategic Planning, (3) Communications, (4) Systems EngineeringStrategic Leadership. Create strong relationships across leadership and subject matter experts in legal, policy, intelligence, technical, and special operations community. Proactively and closely partner with SOF program team to deliver technical solutions for special programs, sensitive activities, and specialized missions. Actively collaborate with other projects supporting related sponsors to ensure maximum value and impact across MITRE’s sponsorsInterpersonal Skills. Deliver strong leadership and develop a team that partners closely with both senior military leaders and action officers to identify tactical, operational, and strategic challenges, potential solutions; and communicate task goals and impacts clearly and effectively.Collaboration. Cultivate an environment that develops robust network of MITRE and other professional connections to engage and collaborate with engineers and planners, subject matter experts, specialists, and defense acquisition professionals. Leverage MITRE technical expertise from the Labs, capabilities from the MITRE Platforms, and other sponsor efforts to support the FFRDC value proposition.Senior Sponsor Experience. Comfortably and respectfully engage with both US and foreign nations’ senior military leaders and engineers as well as commercial executives and managers.Flexibility and Suitability. Be able to modify and alter course as the environment and sponsor priorities shift. Understand the power of reach-back and be an effective conduit to bring the talent forward to execute at the right time. Operate within SOF culture and sensitive activities boundary conditions.Basic Qualifications:
Typically, 8+ years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.Effective and influential oral communications skillsStrong written communications skillsPrevious experience within Combatant CommandsMust be able to work in a collaborative environment and adjust to changing deadlines and priorities to accomplish the customer mission.Applicants selected for this position must have an active Top Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI.This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.Preferred Qualifications:
