JOB SUMMARY
The Store Manager, under the direction and guidance of the Resident Experience Manager, is responsible for daily operation of the Landing Store including, but not limited to, maintaining excellent customer service and vendor relationships, cash control, inventory control, creating and dismantling displays, and maintaining a clean, friendly, and pleasant environment. The Store Manager also supervises Store Clerks during the time they are working in the Store. The Store Manager presents a positive image of Williamsburg Landing and maintains effective relationships with residents, management, and staff.
The Landing General Store, located in the Landing Building, operates Monday - Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm and Saturdays from 10:00am to 2:00pm, closed Sundays. Part-time schedule may vary within those operating hours (30-35/hrs. a week).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Opens and closes the store for daily operations, ensuring sufficient cash on hand for anticipated transactions, well-stocked shelves, and availability of fresh perishable items; sets hours of operation per Williamsburg Landing policySupervises assigned staff to include scheduling, hiring, training, discipline and commendation, evaluating performance, and recommending performance improvement if necessary; ensures staff understand and comply with relevant Williamsburg Landing and Store policies and proceduresDetermines product mix and inventory levels; establishes effective relationships with vendors and search for new vendors to obtain and/or return items as sales and customer preference dictate; places orders with vendors to ensure sufficient inventory on hand, balancing the need for inventory while limiting excess stores; takes advantage of special or seasonal sales, bulk purchase price breaks, or pre-season purchases to reduce costsDetermines sale prices for items including incentive pricing, special promotions, or sales events; creates and recommends quarterly schedule for promotions or sales events for supervisor’s approval; develops in-house advertising program to ensure residents are aware of store offerings and upcoming sales or promotionsStocks shelves, arranges attractive displays, and ensures perishable items are fresh; manages stock and supplies for the Health & Rehabilitation Center’s Port of Call Store; train HRC receptionist on duties of store operationMaintain status of Williamsburg Landing Village Post Office (VPO); complete annual trainings and in-services for self and for staff; maintain sales quotas to maintain store status as official VPO; budget and reload postage materials and other duties related to post office requirementsAssists customers with sales transactions including, but not limited to, assistance with product selection, placing special orders, and billing to the resident’s account; may provide guidance to ship itemsIncreases annual sales and profits over prior years; maintain annual budgetResolves customer complaints involving product suitability or performance, billing errors, and/or concerns regarding staff; refunds money if appropriate and makes required adjustments to sales and inventory reports to offset refundsAnalyzes inventory turnover and develops or modifies inventory plans to meet changing customer expectationsPlaces all daily cash, sales receipts, and credit card receipts in the safe each evening before closing; balances cash register to sales receipts and submits daily sales reports to Business Office ; prepares monthly sales reports tracking turnover, sales price, and marginAnalyzes sales trends and customer feedback to make recommendations to improve physical layout, inventory, supplies, technology, or staffingAssesses customer satisfaction on a periodic basis not less than annually through resident survey; develops and recommends action plans to improve performance of the Store based on that informationReports and investigates robberies or thefts, calling in the local police when advised to do so by the Resident Experience ManagerParticipates in staff meetings and other staff and program activities essential for the operation of the StorePerforms other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Associates degree in business, marketing, or retail management required, Bachelor’s degree preferred; a minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in a retail environment with one year of store management responsibilities required; must be at least 21 years of age with the ability to obtain a license to sell alcoholic beverages from the Commonwealth of Virginia
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of retail sales including purchasing, inventory turnover, display, customer service, and Virginia sales tax regulations; ability to provide excellent customer service; excellent organizational and administrative skills; ability to maintain professional working relationships with staff, community, and regulatory officials; ability to work independently; ability to perform basic mathematical calculations; proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
