Job Description

The Public Works Department is actively seeking two (2) Stock Clerks.

This is clerical support work in receiving, recording, storing and issuing materials, equipment and supplies. The work requires knowledge of storeroom and warehousing principles, practices and procedures which involve the operation of standard office, storeroom and warehouse equipment such as small hand tools, forklifts, front end loaders, personal computers, copy machines and calculators and which can be learned on the job within several months. Contacts require basic courtesy, tact and effectiveness in dealing with others, and include contacts to request or provide information, ask questions or obtain clarification. The work is performed following routines, standing instructions, and established procedures, but some variation in the sequence of procedures used is permitted based on situations encountered in the workplace. The work is normally performed in an office, storeroom or warehouse environment where the employee may work at heights of five feet or more above the floor or ground level and may come in contact with hazardous materials and equipment. Operates standard office, storeroom, and warehouse equipment, including a front-end loader and forklift on an ongoing basis, and dependent on assignment, may operate a vehicle. The physical demand consists mainly of moving from one work location to another, sitting, or standing at a workstation for extended periods of time. Dependent upon assigned work location, may be required to lift various sized objects weighing up to fifty (50) lbs. The work is performed under general supervision where the work assignments are subject to instructions and established work routines, and the worker is given latitude to rearrange the sequence based on changing work situations or workflow.
Examples of Work
+ Receives, records, unpacks, stores and issues a variety of store goods, equipment and materials.
+ Checks incoming goods, equipment and materials for quantity and quality against invoices or purchase orders, reporting discrepancies to supervisor.
+ Prepares and maintains a perpetual inventory system.
+ Establishes and maintains inventory records and files.
+ Assembles, packs and arranges for transport of stored goods, equipment and materials.
+ Responds to inquiries and requests by users to identify and order the appropriate goods, equipment and materials.
+ Makes written reports and fills out forms necessary using word processing, spreadsheet, database, and related software applications.
+ Traces and follows up on requisition orders.
+ Operates forklifts, front-end loader and other equipment in issuing, moving and loading stored goods, equipment and materials.
+ Cleans and maintains assigned work area.
+ Picks up and/or delivers a variety of goods, equipment and materials.
+ May perform minor maintenance such as checking and adding oil, water, fuel and tire pressure, and reporting problems and needed repairs on assigned vehicles.
+ Demonstrates proficiency in the City of Jacksonville’s competencies.
+ Performs related work as required.

Open Requirements/Supplemental Information
+ One (1) year of inventory control, warehousing or administrative experience involving the receiving, issuing and invoicing of goods, equipment and materials.
+ Within ninety (90) days of appointment date to classification, acquire and maintain the OSHA Forklift Certification.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:
+ A valid drivers’ license is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class.
+ Must qualify for prior to appointment, obtain, and maintain during employment in this class a City of Jacksonville Certification as a Public Driver.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
+ The probationary period for this class is six (6) months.
+ This classification performs safety-sensitive functions and is subject to pre-employment, random and other drug/alcohol testing programs as set forth in the City of Jacksonville’s Drug Free Workplace Policy (0401).
