Steamfitter Plumber

Summary:
Under direct supervision installs repairs and replaces pipes fittings and plumbing fixtures steam fixtures gas 02 Vac medical compressed air DI water pumps tanks and valves associated with plumbing and steamfitting trade. Direction of apprentice plumber or steamfitter in the field when required.

Responsibilities:
Responds to emergency and trouble calls throughout the hospital and repairs major plumbing malfunctions i.e. broken pipes and valves as well as all problems i.e. leaking faucets worn seals or gaskets etc. opens clogged drains with plumber�s snake and vacuum plunger clears blocked toilets with plunger or by dismantling to remove obstruction or defective parts. Responds to 02 gas problems poll maintenance dishwashers natural gas fixtures and O.R. equipment repair.



Welds and threads pipe. Hangs and supports pipe per all regulatory codes. Inspects all steam system and related equipment in accordance with predetermined schedule and does routine maintenance for optimum operating efficiency.



Removes Asbestos and patch s area effected. Installs and patch pipe insulation. Patches wall and floor penetrations per code..



Installs pipe assemblies and plumbing fixtures such as sinks toilets showers and water heaters and connects traps and valves and soldering connections to seal joints. Repairs major plumbing malfunctions including broken faucets worn seals or gaskets. Opens clogged drains clear blocked toilets with plunger or by removing toilet from wall a to remove objects and defective parts.



Must do all tank and equipment inspections and keep records for insurance company.



May direct the use of an apprentice.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Requires a High School diploma or graduation from a trade or Vocational School with courses in math.



Requires plumber�s license and steamfitter�s license.



Knowledge of welding low and high pressure steam pipes.



Knowledge of steam loads and expansion of piping.



Knowledge of general plumbing principles codes and regulations.



Analytical ability to read and trouble shoot many unusual problems.



EXPERIENCE:

Requires a minimum of four years apprenticeship registered with the State of Rhode Island and four years related experience.



WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Physical strength and ability to lift heavy equipment and exert pressure on wrenches.
