Statistician - Semel Institute
Description The Semel Institute is seeking to hire a full time Statistician. In this role you will be responsible for data management and statistical analyses as well as assisting in the preparation of research reports, presentations, and manuscripts. Daily task will include: + Proactively ensure the protection of sensitive data through adherence to and data security protocols. + Merge databases, verify integrity of data, prepare data sets (extract, subset, concatenate, transform) for statistical analysis. + De-identify datasets containing protected health information and create new unique identifiers. + Understand and modify or adapt existing SAS code for complex data management; develop new code in SAS, Stata, or R to validate new data against prior study data and for merging complex natural history data across multiple studies and time frames. + Participate in regular meetings, provide input, and provide consultation to researchers, including UCLA ISAP principal investigators, project directors, staff and fellows on use of appropriate analysis methods, interpretation of analysis results, with the creation of new surveys, interview questionnaires and design of studies, and use of statistical software. + Provide technical assistance to the Department of Health Care Services and other stakeholders as needed within the scope of UCLA's interagency contract and help to maintain communications on behalf of the UCLA team. + Conduct statistical analyses, including regression, ANOVA using SAS, STATA, R or other statistical software. + Verify the accuracy and appropriateness of statistical applications; test alternative analyses and use cross-validation techniques. + Assist in preparing manuscripts, quality reports, including easily usable tables using statistical software and from computer printout. + Maintain a quality assurance process for data management/analysis, assuring integrity, consistency of format, and adequate documentation. + Maintain and monitor flow of work interfacing directly with Principal Investigators and Project Directors to meet project deadlines. + Maintain on-going project logs of all work conducted. + Write publishable-quality descriptions of methods and procedures used in data management and statistical analyses, including assumptions and limitations of techniques. + Prepare publishable-quality written summaries and graphs explaining and interpreting analysis results. + Contribute (at co-author status) to the preparation of methods-related sections of grant applications and manuscripts by UCLA ISAP researchers. *Please note that this contract role may convert to career. Pay Range: $ 26.63 - $52.97 Qualifications Required: + Bachelor's degree in statistics, information management, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent education/experience. + Demonstrated proficiency in analyzing large datasets and applying various statistical techniques, including multivariate methods like ANOVA and regression. + Strong adherence to strict security and privacy protocols in handling sensitive data. + Effective verbal and written communication in English, including the ability to consult with other researchers and explain statistical analyses. + Proficiency in using SAS and other software for complex data management and analysis, as well as data visualization tools. + Demonstrated ability to summarize analysis results in various formats (graphs, tables, figures) using word processing and graphics software. + Interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration with project staff, senior researchers, and public data agency representative. + Ability to write publication-quality summaries of analytic methods and results. Preferred: + Experience in conducting meta-analysis.
