State Tax Compliance & Controversy Manager-Carmel, IN (Hybrid)

Position Summary:

Allegion is seeking an individual who has enthusiasm for the tax profession who is driven to pursue an amazing career opportunity within our corporate tax department. The State Income Tax Manager will work under the direction of the Manager, State Tax Compliance & Controversy and assist in the day-to-day state and local income and franchise tax compliance matters of the company. This position will work closely with the broader Allegion Tax department, Allegion’s Corporate Accounting and Finance function as well as the business units’ financial leaders.

What You Will Do:

Preparation and review of state and local income tax and franchise tax returns and estimated tax payments

Preparation, assistance and review of the state year-end income tax provision, return-to-provision (RTP) and quarterly provisions

Responsible for preparing, reviewing and maintaining accurate and complete working papers supporting all state tax filing positions which includes state tax account reconciliations on a monthly basis

Assisting with the preparation of federal income tax returns and associated proformas as needed

Lead rebuttal efforts for state and local notices and/or audits as they arise, including assembling responses to IDR’s (Information Document Requests or other similar requests), communicate with taxing authorities as required and develop income tax audit strategies to minimize tax, interest and penalties

Serve as a well-respected corporate partner in advising business units and other finance functions on tax matters and/or policy as needed

Assist in the analysis of proposed transactions and acquisitions for the purposes of identifying state and local income tax consequences

Work with tax and accounting colleagues, outside consultants, and auditors to support income tax compliance requirements and special projects

Research and resolve various tax inquiries as needed

Identify, research, scope, analyze, and implement tax planning ideas with respect to tax return filing positions, and departmental policies and procedures.

Monitor and evaluate tax legislation, conduct research of applicable tax laws and provide advice on tax matters

Leader of lean improvement initiatives which contribute to the development of new processes and procedures enhancing the quality and efficiency of the tax department

Complete and/or assist with other ad hoc analysis and special projects as needed

Mentor and develop tax department interns while encouraging a teamwork environment

What You Need to Succeed:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance or another related field required

Minimum of three years related tax experience in a large corporate tax environment and/or equivalent public accounting role with experience in domestic income taxes

Proficient technology skills in Microsoft Office (significance on Excel) with preferred experience with Hyperion, ONESOURCE Income Tax, ONESOURCE Tax Provision, Sage Fixed Assets, Alteryx, Power Query, and BNA or CCH research software

Experience with continuous improvement concepts and process re-engineering

Strong organization, planning, analytic and project management skills; ability to prioritize tasks for both self and team to meet business requirements and deadlines with a proven track record of meeting assigned deadlines

Self-motivated, detail oriented and able to work independently

Robust leadership competencies

Team player who cooperates and works well with others in pursuit of team goals, works to create strong morale within the team and across functions; brings a feeling of participation and belonging to the organization

Strong oral and written communication skills

CPA or MST preferred

Other Considerations:

Flexible working arrangements

Minimal travel

Overtime will be required at peak times
