POSITION SUMMARY:
The Staff Software Engineer within the Platform group will join a tight-knit and cross-functional team of scientists and engineers who are tasked with developing a scalable and robust platform upon which the next generation of Natera clinical assays will be based. They will contribute to the design, development, and architecture of various software products as they relate to the clinical laboratory, as well as contributing to cutting edge R&D work, bioinformatics, and high-performance computing. We are looking for an experienced candidate that is comfortable with a variety of tech stacks, is passionate about building robust and scalable software tools, and is excited about having their work used in the care of millions of patients.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design, develop, and build systems that integrate software, automation, and biology into a robust and scalable clinical genomics assay platform. Work closely with assay development and automation scientists to build high-scale and robust workflows. Engage with cross-functional teams such as Product Management, R&D, software architects, and senior leadership, aiming to improve existing processes and systems. Interface with internal software development teams to ensure the seamless integration of LIMS with automation software stack. Analyze and improve existing front-end applications and propose solutions based on technical (software) experience and bioinformatics knowledge. Lay the foundation and architecture for fully-automated laboratory systems at Natera.QUALIFICATIONS:
BA/BS or MS in Computer Science or Engineering (or similar field), 8 or more years of experience with software development Demonstrated track record of shipping complex projects in production. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability to integrate a variety of instruments, such as liquid handlers, plate readers, and plate-handling robotics. Experience writing software for complex hardware and instrumentation. Experience with system architecture and design. Experience with a cloud computing provider such as AWS, GCP, Azure, etc. Software development experience, or familiar with software development practices. Comfortable working with a variety of internal teams, and managing relationships with external contractors. Strong project management skills, organizational skills, and written and verbal communication skills. Experience working with LIMS systems integration is a plus.The pay range is listed and actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location.
