GEICO is seeking an experienced Engineer with a passion for building high-performance, low maintenance, zero-downtime platforms, and applications. You will help drive our insurance business transformation as we transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization with engineering excellence as its mission, while co-creating the culture of psychological safety and continuous improvement.
Position Description
The Staff Engineer reports to a Senior Staff Engineering Manager of Document Platform under GEICO Platform Engineering organization. This tech lead works with other engineers to innovate and build a unified and modernized document management system that integrates with multiple business applications to serve critical business processes. You will lead the strategy and execution of the technical roadmap of the foundational sub-area of the entire document management platform. The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise in large-scale distributed system design and development.
Position Responsibilities
As a Staff Engineer, you will:
Focus on one area in the document management domain and act as the functional tech lead to for the cross-functional product development team; Coordinate and collaborate with product managers, engineering team members and customers to solve complex problems Lead the high-level and low-level designs of one foundational area of the new unified document platform – particularly around document ingestion, document storage, or document governance, and be responsible and accountable for the quality, reliability and performance of the solutionsLeverage open-source frameworks and embrace the cloud native development paradigmMentor and help coach and strengthen the technical expertise and know-how of our engineering and product communityAlways push for engineering excellence; Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams.
Qualifications
Fluency and specialization with at least two modern languages such as Java, Golang, Python or C# including object-oriented designExtensive knowledge and experience of building data intensive large-scale distributed systems with focus on fault-tolerance and throughputExperience building products of micro-services oriented architecture and extensible REST APIsExperience building the architecture and design of new and current systems (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling) Fluency in DevOps concepts and best practices in CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as a codeExperience with application performance monitoring tools and performance assessments In-depth knowledge of CS data structures and algorithmsExperience with solving analytical problems with quantitative approachesAbility to excel in a fast-paced, startup-like environment
Annual Salary
$115,000.00 - $230,000.00The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
