Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations._ **Responsibilities:** This Staff Scientist position will undertake project development and management at the senior professional level by assuming responsibility for complex research projects that constitute major aspects of several larger research projects. This position will work independently in the James P. Wilmot Cancer Institute in Dr. Laura Calvi's Laboratory. Dr. Calvi's lab is focused on understanding the role of the bone marrow microenvironment in regulation of normal and malignant stem cells, including the study of skeletal aging, radiation injury, myeloid neoplasms and preleukemic lesions such clonal hematopoiesis and myelodysplastic syndromes. TYPICAL ASSIGNMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: In addition to project development and management, this position requires oversight of the laboratory, mouse colony organization, and active collaborations. The position will require extensive experience in molecular and cell biology, organizational independence, an ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of students, post-docs, and supervising the techniques of research technicians using a range of experimental systems and techniques. This individual will be involved in several core research projects within the scope of the lab outlined above, including oversight and training of students, fellows and post-docs participating in the projects. This position will require an ability to support all of these projects in multiple capacities. Additionally the position will require the intellectual development and management of a primary research project that will in all its aspects, be directly organized, controlled, and executed by the staff scientist. As such, independence, a strong work ethic and focus on details will be critical. This requires a capacity to design, organize, and analyze experimental data that will serve as an invaluable tool in the publication of papers in scientific journals and future funding opportunities. This individual will remain abreast of current literature in this field and to take the initiative in preparing data for publication in peer-reviewed journals and in presenting this data at major conferences. The staff scientist will also take initiative in obtaining extramural peer-reviewed funding for their work where possible. A high level of competence in independent decision making and interpersonal skills will be critical to success in the role. REQUIREMENTS: Ph.D. or M.D. degree with major course work in the field, and a minimum of 2-5 years of relevant postdoctoral training. The lab prefers hands on experience in cell biology, murine modeling of hematopoiesis and/or myeloid neoplasms, flow cytometry, DNA/RNA isolation, molecular cloning, retro- and lenti-viral production, qRT-PCR, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, processing of primary human peripheral blood and bone marrow samples, and colony management. Mouse handling is required. Candidate must have excellent command of oral and written English language and work in a collaborative work environment. Required computer skills include MS Word, Excel, Photoshop, and statistical software.
