What You Will Do:

As a Staff Electrical Engineer in Orthopedic Instruments, you will design, lead and be part of a cross-functional team working on lunching electromechanical-surgical products that make healthcare better! 

In this role, you will be responsible for owning your design from concept to production, in addition to providing technical focus across our Electrical Engineering program team. You will work collaboratively with customers, marketing, and operations partners to perform customer research, design, test, and document electrical components, architectures, systems, and products.

Technical Responsibilities:

Plan and conduct engineering research as assigned.

Translate design inputs to engineering specifications and produce component and sub-system level designs.

Perform a wide variety of technical work in planning and design of electro-mechanical, embedded hardware electronic circuits and PCB design which will lead to new or improved products/product lines under marketing, cost, time and regulatory constraints for medical devices that supports our total joint power portfolio.

Apply advanced circuit and electrical system test methods.

Through the design process, you will perform Schematic Capture, Layout and Failure Mode Analysis for PCBA’s, Cables and other electromechanical components. Complete analysis for electromagnetic compliance (EMC), stack-ups, reliability, safety, cost and design for manufacturing / assembly / test.

Conduct problem solving, identify potential solutions, and evaluate them against component and sub-system requirements.

Assist in evaluating vendor capability to support development and test fixture development.

You will have the opportunity to work with multiple technical experts and internal/external training to further develop electrical hardware development skills and understanding of the medical procedures your products will be used in.

Business Responsibilities:

Advance solutions by applying in-depth knowledge of customer needs, market and competitive offerings.

Apply detailed knowledge of clinical procedures to author design inputs.

Support Voice of Customer sessions internally and with clinicians.

Demonstrate developing financial acumen.

Med Device Compliance:

Follow and mentor others on fundamental industry standards, design requirements and test strategies which apply to regulatory requirements.

Lead the creation and refinement of engineering documentation, such as the Design History file.

Follow and mentor others on R&D procedure like design controls and risk management, per the Quality Management System.

General Responsibilities:

Work cooperatively with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing and Project Management to ensure project success as a key member of the team, collaborating with others and solidifying relationships.

Identify and support the creation of or improvements to procedures, policies, processes, systems, and technology.

Support and execute segments of complex multifunctional teams to advance projects through the design/development/launch process.

Deliver high quality results with passion, energy and drive to meet business priorities.

Build relationships and influence among peers.

What You Will Need:

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or related field is required.

4+ years of related design experience is required.

Experience with PCB Schematic & Layout process and tools (e.g. PSpice, LTspice, OrCAD, Mentor Graphics, Altium, etc.).

Experience using electronic hardware lab tools for development of design (e.g. Oscilloscope, Electronic Loads, Function Generator, Spectrum Analyzer, Environmental Chambers).

Preferred Qualifications (Strongly desired):

Proficiency in specification, design and verification of battery charging and testing circuitry.

Experience with circuit design fundamentals with experience in analog, digital, mixed-signal, motor control, motor design and/or power electronics.

Experience in autoclavable electro-mechanical designs.

Expertise in battery management systems and related circuitry and algorithms, including state of health, state of charge, cell balancing, and charging.

Expertise in battery cell chemistries and construction techniques, especially for high power / high temperature applications.

Ability to Implement risk mitigation strategies to ensure safety and efficacy of lithium-ion battery cells and packs.

Knowledge in circuit board manufacturing processes and experience transferring designs to production suppliers.

Travel Percentage: 10%
