The Staff Accountant supports the Corporate Accounting Department in various tasks related to the monthly accounting close process including the analysis of financial performance of various TV stations, preparing monthly journal entries, complying with monthly internal SOX controls, and other accounting functions to assist with the monthly close process.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist with the preparation of monthly accounting journal entries primarily depreciation journal entries and general ledger journal entries for approximately 30 to 40 marketsComplete monthly construction in process (CIP) reconciliations for designated markets (approx. 30 to 40) along with working with Chief Engineers and Regional Business Managers (RBMs) to appropriately review the designated markets CIPs for (i) capitalization, and (ii) review for items to expense if needed based on review of the project and applying GAAP accounting rulesMaintain Station Fixed Asset records for a set of TV stations that are assigned including preparation of the monthly journal entries for depreciation, fixed asset additions and disposals in the Fixed Asset systemPerform annual (around 4th quarter) fixed asset inventories for designated marketsMail approx. 50 to 100 hundred checks on a rotating basis twice a month twice each weekAssist depositing manual checks received along with booking the corresponding journal entryReview station balance sheet reconciliations monthlyReview and or analyze general ledger accountsPerform AP edit reviews of operating expenses and capitalReview sales tax on invoices for accuracy and inclusion vs. exclusionPrepare quarterly / annual schedules (rollforwards/analysis) for the external auditorsVarious ad hoc accounting projects as assigned by the Fixed Asset SupervisorAssist with the daily communications between Corporate and the Chief EngineersPerform certain other functions as neededRequirements & Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.Excellent communication skills, both oral and written along with attention to detail.Minimum two years’ experience in corporate accounting or financial analysis, preferably in the broadcast industry and/or a public company environment.Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment.Physical Demands & Work Environment:
The Staff Accountant must be able to sit, reach, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. In addition, the Accountant must be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls. Repetitive movements are required.
