Staff Accountant - Education Sector
Description Job Summary: Our client, a reputable educational organization, is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join their finance team. This contract-to-hire position offers an exciting opportunity to work with a dynamic team and contribute to the organization’s financial operations. The ideal candidate will have experience using NetSuite and possess a strong understanding of accounting principles and procedures. Key Responsibilities: General Accounting: + Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations. + Maintain the general ledger and ensure transactions are recorded accurately and in compliance with organizational policies. + Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules for internal and external reporting. Accounts Payable and Receivable: + Oversee and process accounts payable and receivable transactions, ensuring accurate coding and timely payments. + Reconcile accounts payable and receivable balances and resolve discrepancies with vendors and clients. + Assist with processing grant payments and supporting financial documentation for compliance. NetSuite Accounting System: + Utilize NetSuite to manage daily financial transactions and ensure accurate data entry. + Assist with system upgrades, user training, and process improvements related to NetSuite. + Generate financial reports and statements within NetSuite to assist with budgeting and forecasting. Budgeting and Forecasting: + Assist in the preparation of departmental budgets, forecasts, and financial analysis. + Monitor expenditures and provide insights to ensure financial targets are met. Month-End and Year-End Support: + Prepare schedules for month-end and year-end close, ensuring timely completion and accuracy. + Assist with audit preparation by providing requested documentation and responding to auditor inquiries. Compliance and Reporting: + Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and organizational policies. + Prepare reports for stakeholders, such as donors, board members, and government entities. Requirements Qualifications: + 3+ years of experience in accounting, preferably in the educational or non-profit sector. + Strong proficiency in NetSuite or similar ERP accounting systems. + Understanding of accounting principles and practices, including GAAP. + Experience with general ledger functions, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting. + Advanced Excel skills and experience creating financial reports and analysis. + Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities. + Excellent communication and organizational skills. + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
