Staff Accountant
Staff Accountant Location: Fort Wayne, IN Level: Salaried Division/Department: Finance / General Accounting Reports to: Assistant Controller Travel: Minimal About the role: The position will have responsibility for recording various financial transactions, which includes assets, liabilities, equity, income and expense. The position will also include responsibility for producing financial reports on a recurring basis for management as well as being an integral part of month-end and year-end close processes. Responsibilities Include: + Record daily sales information, prepare and distribute sales reporting on a daily and weekly basis + Assign and track capital asset numbers and related expenses, investigating and determining resolution for any discrepancies + Preparation of the fixed asset schedules and related capital expenditure reporting + Preparation and review of the monthly financial statements, as well as distribution to appropriate DIB team members + Ability to analyze general ledger accounts in depth and explain what is occurring to financial and nonfinancial parties + Prepare journal entries to record month-end and year-end adjustments + Interact with external auditors during testing and prepare schedules in support of the annual audit + Responsible for reviewing expenditures and applying sales and use tax as necessary + Maintain accuracy of assigned general ledger accounts + Responsible for recording weekly payroll totals and resolving any discrepancies with Human Resources + Understand current processes and identify potential changes for efficiency improvements + Prepare and file state personal property returns + Track and confirm payment of state real estate tax returns + Responsible for tracking and maintaining state and federal quarterly estimated payments and assisting with the mailing of the final returns + Act as a backup to other accounting personnel, including but not limited to cash recording, processing member credit balances, and sales tax return preparation Education and Experience: Minimum + Bachelor's Degree in Accounting + Experience with accounting software programs + Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access and Google Products + Proficient in the use of Excel Desired + Prior accounting work experience + Experience with accounting software programs + Customer service work experience + General knowledge of sales tax administration Skills and Abilities: Minimum + Familiarity with accounting principles and rules + Skilled in Excel, Word and Google Products + Strong organizational skills + Professional curiosity + Excellent communication skills + Self-starter, able to work with deadlines + Strong attention to detail + Ability to work well within a team setting + Retain information well and be resourceful Desired + Skilled in PowerPoint of Slides + Possess initiative to identify problem areas and suggest solutions Benefits available to you: + Full insurance benefits package including Medical, Dental, & Vision + Paid time off to foster work/life balance + Profit sharing + Bonus Pay opportunities + Retirement funding opportunities + Education reimbursement + Health club reimbursement + Career advancement opportunities About Do it Best: We’re the only US-based, member-owned hardware, lumber, and building materials co-op in the home improvement industry.
