Job Description
As a Staff Accountant, you will help prepare monthly financial statements and other requested financial information promptly. You will handle daily cash deposits, support sr. staff accountants with monthly general ledger closing, and maintain the accounting system. Additionally, you will review monthly budget variances, suggest improvements to internal controls or processes, and assist management in resolving expense-related issues. Your role will also involve supporting external auditors, conducting financial analyses, gathering information for tax preparers, and overseeing fixed assets within the Health System.
ResponsibilitiesPrepare monthly financial statements and other requested financial information promptly.Handle daily cash deposits.Support senior staff accountants with monthly general ledger closing and maintaining the accounting system.Review monthly budget variances and discuss significant differences with the Manager of General Accounting and Financial Reporting and the Director of Finance.Investigate budget variances by communicating with relevant personnel.Evaluate accounting systems and procedures, suggesting improvements to internal controls or processes when needed.Document accounting systems and procedures.Assist management in resolving expense-related issues that require accounting clarification.Support external auditors and prepare necessary audit schedules.Conduct financial analyses as requested by the Director of Finance and the Manager of General Accounting and Financial Reporting.Gather information for tax preparers to ensure timely filing of various tax returns or directly prepare certain tax returns.Oversee and account for fixed assets within the Health System.Essential SkillsProficiency in accounting, ERP, Excel data entry, reconciliation, cash reconciliation, general ledger, and journal entry.Extremely proficient in Excel, including formula writing, spreadsheet linking, data lookup, pivot tables.Experience with cash reconciliation and general ledger reconciliation.Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.Proficiency in PeopleSoft, Oracle, Excel analysis, data entry, and bank reconciliation.Additional Skills & QualificationsBS Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, or related field.1+ year of related experience.Excellent written and oral communication skills.High level of interpersonal skills.Work Environment
This is a very fast-paced and collaborative environment. The position is fully remote with potential in-person onboarding for health system training and setup during the first 2 days. While the role is flexible on candidate location, there is a preference for candidates in Maryland due to new payroll system requirements. There are all-hands-on-deck meetings that require in-office attendance 1-2 times a month. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $60000.00 - $70000.00/yr.
