ABOUT STANFORD RED BARN

The Stanford Red Barn Student Equestrian Center is part of Stanford’s Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation (“DAPER”) which is the premier intercollegiate athletics and recreation program in the country. The Red Barn is the oldest building on campus, part of Leland Stanford’s Palo Alto Stock Farm that became home to Leland Stanford Junior University in 1891.

Today the Red Barn is a state-of-the-art training and education center for equestrians with nearly 100 horses in our care. The barn is the home of Stanford’s top-ranked collegiate Equestrian Team, the thriving Stanford Riding Academy, as well as serving as a boarding facility with premier resident trainers. The Red Barn operates under the oversight of DAPER in concert with the Red Barn Advisory Board, a distinguished group including faculty, alumni, and industry professionals.

The Red Barn maintains the model of equine excellence and historical roots entrenched in the University’s “Farm” heritage through outreach, community events, and equine education programs. Our priority is serving Stanford students, the Stanford community (faculty, staff, and alumni), and members of our local community.
