**About the Role**
The Safety and Insurance (S&I) team at Uber is devoted to enhancing safety measures across all services, including Rides and Eats, and handling comprehensive insurance solutions. They implement large-scale safety programs which involve leadership and coordination with various functions such as Engineering, Product, and Design. The team focuses on the management of personal safety risks and develops strategic safety programs to mitigate these risks. Insurance responsibilities within the team encompass managing claims, ensuring compliance with jurisdictional regulations, and coordinating multiple types of coverage to protect both riders and drivers effectively.
**What the Candidate Will Do:**
- Lead the end-to-end delivery of complex, high-impact technical programs — from initial concept through launch and ongoing iteration.
- Partner closely with Safety and Insurance Engineering, Product, Data Science teams, Legal, BD and Go-to-market teams to design and implement scalable, secure, and compliant solutions that meet both user needs and regulatory requirements.
- Proactively identify risks, bottlenecks, and dependencies; resolve issues before they impact timelines or quality of delivery.
- Drive cross-functional strategic planning processes, including defining program scope, aligning on priorities, managing resources, and communicating tradeoffs to stakeholders.
- Establish clear success metrics and tracking mechanisms to ensure programs deliver measurable business value.
- Act as a central point of coordination across global and regional teams, aligning efforts and ensuring consistent execution across multiple workstreams.
- Champion operational excellence by continuously improving program delivery frameworks, communication channels, and team collaboration models.
**Basic Qualifications:**
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years of experience as a Technical Program Manager or Engineering Manager in software or systems development.
- Proven success in managing end-to-end delivery of technical programs in the Trust, Safety and Insurance or related domains.
- Strong technical acumen, with experience in distributed systems and microservice architectures.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to influence diverse stakeholders and drive alignment.
- Mastery of project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall) and tools.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
- Proven track record of launching critical products, ideally in Safety, Insurance, Security, Privacy, Trust or other regulated industries.
- Good understanding of Safety, insurance and security services
- Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills; adept at defining and tracking program KPIs.
- Demonstrated ability to lead large, cross-functional initiatives in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
- Skilled in strategic planning, resource allocation, risk management, and stakeholder coordination.
- Exceptional multitasking and prioritization abilities across concurrent projects.
For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$180,000 per year - USD$200,000 per year.
