Sr. Tax Accountant

Senior Tax Accountant Norfolk, VA We are seeking a degreed Senior Tax Accountant who will report to the Tax Manager and assist with tax functions relating to property portfolios, alternative investments, and corporate entities. The Senior Tax Accountant will have exposure to federal and state partnership tax returns, non-U.S. investor tax forms, preferred equity and mezzanine debt investments, Freddie Mac bonds, whole loans, REITs, and complex real estate transactions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: + Prepare income and withholding tax projections related to real property dispositions. + Prepare year-end tax projections for the Harbor Group general partners and select LP investors. + Communicate regularly with outside CPA firms regarding the preparation and delivery of Schedule K-1s and tax returns, tax payments, extensions, and tax notices. + Review K-1s and tax returns prepared by CPA firms and prepare tax forms and tax elections as needed. + Prepare annual schedules to reconcile the estimated to actual tax withholding for investors. + Prepare budgets and process annual partnership expenses for real estate entities. + Review Personal Property Tax Returns and payments. + Review, research, and respond to tax notices and other various tax issues that may arise for property, partnership, and corporate entities. + Assist with REIT and TRS elections, quarterly REIT testing, and reviewing testing memos prepared by the CPA firms. + Work with Investor Relations to respond to investor questions related to withholding and tax documents, including Schedule K-1s, 8805s, 1042-S forms, and 1099s. + Work with Property, Partnership, and Corporate Accountants to answer questions related to tax payments, refunds, filing fees or CPA firm invoices. + Assist with research and tax structuring related to property acquisitions, dispositions, and recapitalizations. + Assist with special projects as needed. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. + Bachelor’s degree in accounting or an equivalent discipline. + Advanced degree in taxation preferred. + 3-4 years of relevant work experience in public accounting or a combination of public accounting and the private sector. + CPA or eligible to sit for CPA exam required. + Experience with partnership taxation (Form 1065, Schedule K-1) required. + Knowledge of real estate purchase and sale transactions preferred. + Strong oral and written communication, good listening skills, excellent attention to detail and a quick learner. + Experience with entire Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. + Very strong Microsoft Excel skills required. + Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage well through ambiguity and complexity. + Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task and work well under pressure. + Ability to balance time during busy annual reporting/tax season. + Self-motivated and able to work independently. + Team player and also able to work collaboratively with peers and leadership. + Experience with MRI and YARDI is a bonus. + State and local tax experience is a plus. + An understanding of Real Estate Investment Trusts is an advantage.
