Sr. Supplier Mfg Engineer, Project Kuiper
Description Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of over 3,000 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity. Key job responsibilities The Kuiper team seeks a Senior Supplier Manufacturing Engineer to develop and monitor manufacturing processes across our global supply base. The ideal candidate brings proven experience scaling manufacturing operations and thrives in solving complex problems with cross-functional teams in dynamic environments. • Evaluate and validate supplier manufacturing processes using advanced GD&T principles, ensuring compliance with design specifications and optimal manufacturability • Lead Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) reviews with suppliers and design teams, providing actionable feedback to improve product designs for manufacturing efficiency • Analyze and optimize complex electro-mechanical assemblies through value engineering, considering aspects such as tolerancing, material selection, and manufacturing processes • Develop and maintain manufacturing process documentation, including detailed process flow diagrams, control plans, and PFMEA (Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis) • Lead supplier technical assessments and implementation of advanced manufacturing technologies, evaluating equipment, tooling, and measurement systems to drive quality, efficiency, and successful new product introduction • Perform technical deep dives into manufacturing defects and quality issues, utilizing root cause analysis tools and statistical methods to drive corrective actions • Serve as technical liaison between design engineering and suppliers, translating complex engineering requirements into practical manufacturing solutions while maintaining design intent • Partner with Global Category Managers to qualify new suppliers and manufacturing technologies, ensuring alignment between supplier capabilities and product requirements A day in the life A day in the life of a Senior Supplier Manufacturing Engineer at Kuiper involves balancing tactical and strategic responsibilities. You might start by reviewing production metrics from key suppliers, then join a DFM review with design engineers and suppliers to optimize a critical component. Midday could include conducting a technical assessment at a supplier facility, analyzing manufacturing process data, or troubleshooting quality issues. Afternoon activities often focus on cross-functional collaboration - working with Category Managers on supplier qualification plans or consulting with engineering teams on manufacturability improvements for upcoming designs. The base pay for this position ranges from $128,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
