Sr. Software Engineer - Digital Twin, Project Kuiper
Amazon.com
Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.
We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join the satellite bus systems team. You will work closely with a world-class team of engineers and business leaders to build/integrate algorithms and simulation models that will be used to estimate state of health, perform predictive analysis for system utilization, and optimize system performance under dynamic use-cases. We are looking for a Software Engineer to participate in all phases of software development from requirements through implementation and test to operations. In this role, you will focus on building and deploying models using automated operational workflows in cloud environment. You should have deep expertise in the design, creation, management, and use of large sensor datasets and building/utilizing APIs for software services.
Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Key job responsibilities
* Work with stakeholder, peer teams and customers to build and deploy digital twin models that track the health of hardware systems such as satellite power subsystem, battery, and solar array.
* Perform simulations, scenario testing, and predictive analysis to optimize system performance using constraints and objective/cost function.
* Develop/utilize monitoring and alerting systems to track space and ground infrastructure health and stability.
* Collaborate with hardware, software, and test infrastructure teams to integrate, test, and validate new features using synthetic data in simulation environments or hardware-in-the-loop testbed systems.
* Develop cloud native software systems in Python, Java or another modern language.
* Automate operational workflows to reduce manual intervention and improve system efficiency.
* Build and maintain robust and well-documented APIs that allows other engineers and partners to develop their own custom models, integrations, and test assertions.
* Lead technical roadmap definition, requirements & feature planning, and performance improvements. Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership to the team.
A day in the life
As a Senior Software Development Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the development of models to track system health and performance, build optimization algorithms, and perform test verification. You will work with a dynamic group of engineers and collaborators across multiple technology areas to identify optimization problems, design novel solutions that meet customer requirements, and write software to automate key behaviors for our simulation and test infrastructure. You will build models and APIs to extract, process, and visualize data from constellation's space and ground assets effectively. You will tackle problems that span a variety of domains.
About the team
You will be working closely with hardware & software development, systems engineering, and test teams in the area of power, battery, solar and satellite bus. Everyone on the team needs to be entrepreneurial, wear many hats and work in a highly collaborative environment.
