The Senior Research Chemist develops new cleaners/etchants used to manufacture semiconductor IC and memory devices.

JOB PROFILE SUMMARY

Develop new cleaners/etch chemicals used to manufacture semiconductor IC, memory and MEMS devices.

Have in depth knowledge applicable to semiconductor IC and memory device fabrication, preferably on cleans, etches, electrochemistry and surface preparation. Ability to perform statistics-based experimental designs to develop innovative performance chemistries.

Ensure research and development activities will maintain a competitive position and profitability. Consult with top management and research and development team and makes recommendations based on research findings and product performance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Starting with the concept of what is needed, the chemist develops commercially viable products in a timely fashion. Plans and conducts a variety of complex technical projects under very general directions.  Performs work independently with instructions as to the general results expected Adheres to all safety rules. Performs other duties as assigned by R&D Management.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS:

Develops and characterizes the performance of new products. Experimental designs and mechanism studies. Collaborates with Applications Engineers and Sales to introduce the products into customer applications. Leads joint development activities with external research firms. Provides training on the use of the new products and methods. Participates in technical and business strategy development. Presents work at scientific meetings and trade shows.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

PhD (0-3+ yrs) experience required

Experience:

Electrochemistry, semiconductor, surface chemistry or related research is preferred, but not required.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

Chemist/Chemical Engineer/Material Scientist

Skills/Competencies:

Sound knowledge of organic, inorganic, organometallic and analytical chemistries.Knowledge of semiconductor or memory device fabrication processesInnovation and creativityProficiency in electrochemistry including electrochemical, physical property measurements, skilled in wet etching or wet cleans a plus.The ability to develop innovative approaches to solving complex problemsFamiliarity with statistical application, chemical and technical literature.The ability to research the literature to understand past developments and to facilitate the development of original strategies.The ability to conduct intellectual property reviewsThe ability to identify industry trends in order to invent and develop novel and patentable chemistry and/or processesThe ability to independently design, conduct experiments and analyze the results of experiments.The ability to clearly and effectively explain the experimental design, the results and the significance to the data.Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning applications on chemical formulation development is a plus.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/SCOPE:

The Senior Research Chemist may work with, support, and collaborate with any other member of the research staff, also with process development and the pilot plant, production, QC, marketing and customers. Is responsible for or facilitates the introduction of new products and technology as well as the technical support of existing products
