Responsibilities
We have an opportunity for a Jr. Accountant to join our Berkley Re America team. You will support the function of the Reinsurance Accounting Unit by striving for and achieving consistent results for goals established by the Department Manager. This position will be based in our Stamford, CT office (right across the street from the Metro North train station). We are open to recent college grads who are technically savvy and open to learn about reinsurance accounting. This position will be abed in our Stamford, CT office.

Key functions include but are not limited to:
Review, analyze and process premium and loss transactionsApply cash and manage aged premium receivable and overdue accountsCreation and application of disbursements in sub-ledgerProduction of monthly billing statementsCommunicate with Claims and Underwriting Departments to ensure accurate reporting of dataCoordinating assignment of incoming accounts/cash in workflow system (BPMi)Use of workflow system to process receipts, disbursements and premium/loss transactions
Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/FinanceRecent college grads with an accounting major open to learn reinsurance; or 1-2+ years in a general accounting related roleAdept with technology, big data, accounting software and spreadsheet programsAdvanced Excel skills Ability to adapt to changing departmental needsMust be a team player who demonstrates respect for othersAttention to detail with strong observation skillsAnalytical skills to recognize inconsistencies and communicate issues effectivelyAdept with technology, accounting software and spreadsheet programsFamiliar with document imaging and workflow systems
