Key Roles & Responsibilities
Standard Duites :
40% - Leads coordination and alignments for design for manufacturability and design for assembly (DFM/DFA) to ensure new and changing designs are robust for best practice product assembly.
30% - Leads engineering problem solving activities related to plant specific issues.
20% - Leads and drives design cost reductions discussions and follow ups with all key stake holder departments for the transfer case product.
10% - Lead brainstorming activities for future design changes, including initial engineering feasibility reviews.
Performs full range of technical work including assignments requiring special qualifications/ attainments.
Lead Design for Manufacturing and Assembly activities across Seneca Campus
Develop design solutions to manufacturing issues, warranty issues, and cost reductions necessary.
Present and market new design proposals to BorgWarner and customer engineering teams.
Process and track designs in BorgWarner and customer engineering change management systems.
Handle multiple complex design proposals and changes simultaneously.
Complete complex system and component level stack up studies.
Communicate effectively across functional groups (product engineering, CAD, CAE, application engineering, quality, assembly, manufacturing, etc.) and locations (Seneca, SC, Darmstadt Germany, Auburn Hills, MI, and multiple locations in Asia)
Analyze and align DFMEAs and PFMEAs.
Exchanging information with the relevant departments to optimize the product and the production process – DfA (Design for Assembly); DfM (Design for Manufacturing); DtC (Design to Cost)
Analyze drawing deviations for functional risk and/or acceptance. Approve or reject design deviations based on engineering analysis.
Work with suppliers to improve quality, address non-conformance to drawings, and develop design cost reductions.
Create, review and edit product drawings for design improvement.
Support production with expertise of problem solving of product, design, and assembly issues.
Conduct root cause analysis and implementation of effective solutions.
Use datamining software (Python, Matlab, etc.) to problem solve recalls, warranty risk, and product performance challenges in manufacturing.
Knowledge/ Skills
Familiar with battery systems and manufacturing process
Familiar with driveline systems and manufacturing process
Have familiar with stamping, cleanliness, and fastening specifications.
Understand financials of machining and manufacturing processes
General metallurgy knowledge preferred.
Ability to read drawings and knowledge of GD&T
Self-motivation & self-starting work habits preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications - Word, Excel and PowerPoint required.
Strong analytical ability and problem-solving experience required.
Professional verbal and written communication skills required.
Additional Information:
Travel is occasionally required, up to 5% of the time.

Wear PPE when appropriate in designated campus areas.
Lifting shoulder high up to 35 lbs. on occasion.

Required:
Education & Experience
Four-year bachelor’s degree in engineering field required. Mechanical Engineering preferred.
5 + years experience in automotive product engineering and manufacturing
2 + years experience with Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA)and Product Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA)
2 + years Engineering experience in tolerance stack-up, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
2 + years Statistical analysis experience
Salary Range:
