Role Summary Step into a key role at Rivian as a Sr. Optical Engineer for Exterior Lighting, where you'll shape the future of vehicle lighting systems through cutting-edge optical design and innovation. From concept development to production, you’ll work hands-on with advanced technologies, refining performance through simulations, lab testing, and night drives. Responsibilities Design and develop exterior lighting optical components for vehicle exterior forward lighting systems. Conduct design reviews for exterior lighting optical parts and their iterative designs. Assist in the development of optical design standards and specifications for optical system performance. Conduct optical simulation and analysis for early concept development and design change feasibility. Research and incorporate new lighting technologies into early concept development. Support the development of best practices for optical system simulation, testing, and validation. Support night drives and reviews of exterior forward lighting systems. Support hands-on analysis of exterior forward lighting systems within an optical lab setting. Provide DFM support to the Rivian Lighting team prior to supplier selection and throughout development. Qualifications B.S. or higher in Physics or Engineering with optical content or equivalent. 3+ years of automotive optical engineering experience, including at least one full product lifecycle from concept through production. Understanding of color metric behavior of components. Understanding of test methodologies for optical systems. Experience with optical simulation software (e.g., ASAP, LucidShape, or ANSYS SPEOS). A passion for innovation and driving efficient design. Proficiency with CATIA V5 or V6 and MS Office products. Pay Disclosure Salary Range California Based Applicants: $107,800-$134,000 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, and other factors permitted by law).
