Sr. Inventory Accountant
Description We are looking for a highly skilled Sr. Inventory Accountant to manage and enhance inventory accounting processes within our client's organization. Based in Memphis, Tennessee, this role involves overseeing reconciliations, performing in-depth inventory analyses, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in inventory management, strong analytical skills, and a proactive approach to improving processes. Responsibilities: • Conduct detailed reconciliations of balance sheets, bank accounts, and inventory reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards. • Review weekly Distribution Center roll forwards and inventory sourcing reports to maintain data integrity. • Collaborate with teams across departments, such as Loss Prevention and Supply Chain, to monitor shrink results and enhance inventory processes. • Identify and resolve discrepancies in accounting records by researching root causes and implementing corrective measures. • Prepare and analyze journal entries, ensuring proper valuation and treatment of inventory transactions. • Act as a backup for reconciling chain-wide systematic entries and detecting potential inconsistencies in the General Ledger. • Support internal and external audits by providing timely and accurate documentation related to inventory and financial records. • Partner with IT to address system issues and monitor open items impacting inventory processes. • Provide guidance and support to international inventory teams, including occasional travel to assist with specific needs. • Maintain and update process documentation to reflect current practices and ensure compliance. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, with at least 5 years of relevant experience in inventory or financial accounting. • Proficiency in advanced Excel functions, including VLOOKUP and complex formulas. • Hands-on experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or PeopleSoft. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to identify and address discrepancies. • Demonstrated expertise in balance sheet and bank reconciliations, as well as journal entry preparation. • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively while meeting deadlines. • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate across teams and present findings. • A track record of developing and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
