Sr. Fiber Technician

Job Summary 
The Senior Fiber Technician is responsible for safely operating and maintaining the Dyneema fiber production facility to produce Dyneema fiber, of the highest possible quality, in the most cost effective manner.
This position requires interaction with other technicians, control room operator, shift coordinator, and supervision within the fiber production organization.  Interact with maintenance for work permitting.  Teamwork is crucial to operating equipment.

Roles and responsibilities are defined and assigned to those involved in the different Manufacturing Excellence Work Processes.  Work safely and follow all applicable procedures and policies.  Abides by Avient Protective Materials procedures/policies regarding security, inclusive of:  employee security agreements; use of non-disclosure agreements with outside parties; control of Avient Protective Materials intellectual property limited to a “need to know” only basis; no unauthorized use of cell phones, cameras, computers or Avient Protective Materials property; reporting security threats and incidents; proper control of Avient Protective Materials property and keys. Set up, operate, monitor, adjust and clean all process equipment required for producing Dyneema fiber in accordance with applicable work instructions, Job Safety Analysis procedures, recipes, and standard operating procedures. Operate various ancillary utility systems including cooling towers, chillers, boilers, air compressors, water and air treatment systems, and air separation equipment.   Take samples and determine properties of the produced intermediate and finished products.  Maintain records of operating parameters and raw materials used to produce products.  Inspect and pack finished product. Move, measure, maintain inventory and store raw, intermediate and finished products.    Assist in the training and guidance of other team members. Comply with all job-related regulatory and training requirements in a timely manner. Actively promotes team involvement in area.  Uses group diversity and individual strengths to positively contribute to the profitability of the company and maintain harmonious working relationships. Responsible for compliance with relevant laws, regulatory requirements, recipes, SOP’s, and other related documentation and activities.  Ensures Company guidelines and policies relating to quality, safety, housekeeping and cost effectiveness are met. Maintain annual training requirements on hazardous waste by reviewing DYNPRO SHE DYN 653 and general awareness presentation. Specific job holders will complete more detailed training as well. Perform routine inspections of hazardous waste storage facilities, logging required data. Safely handle liquid and solid hazardous waste Perform other duties as assigned. Authorized to approve work permits per details included in DYNPRO SHE DYN 026. If so authorized, employee must maintain necessary refresher training to participate in these activities. Projects or Special Assignments Operational Excellence Roles SAP Roles (as required) This position involves work with (supervision of) and/or handling hazardous materials and waste at the Avient Protective Materials (Greenville, NC) work site.  Worker has the appropriate qualifications to read, understand, apply and communicate written and verbal information regarding handling and managing hazardous wastes.  Training is required within six months of worker assuming duty, and once a year thereafter.  Worker is responsible for proper handling, documentation, inspection and transporting around the facility of hazardous wastes.  Worker may also be responsible for responding to emergencies involving hazardous waste. 

Education and Experience 

High school diploma and at least 1 ½  years experience in a fiber manufacturing environment or 1 year experience in the military, construction or as a mechanic and at least six months experience in a fiber production environment. The Senior Fiber Technician will operate within the Greenville Fiber Production organization.  He/she’s troubleshooting skills, dexterity with manual operations, and technical aptitude will have significant influence on the stability and quality of our fiber processes.  Ability to make quick decisions is critical to keeping our production lines operating. Knowledge of appropriate safety procedures Knowledge of scheduling procedures.   Knowledge of changeovers/cleaning/set-up, work instructions for fiber activities. Knowledge of typical utility system operations associated with fiber manufacturing processes. Ability to perform mathematical computations. Ability to plan buffers to achieve maximum process throughput. Ability to drive improvements in production lead times and minimize reject material. Firm understanding of computerized control systems. Ability to read and understand equipment and process drawings and related technical information. Ability to operate forklifts and overhead cranes. Mechanical skills & knowledge including equipment assembly. Ability to maintain accurate records. Ability to constantly produce at established production rates. Skills in detecting defects and identifying and correcting the root cause. Ability to read gauges, dials, meters and set controllers. Ability to follow verbal or written directions. Knowledge of performance standards. Ability to coordinate hand-arm manipulations.
