Description Amazon Branded Connected Devices aims to make advanced smart home technology accessible and user-friendly for everyone. In this role, you will develop a new portfolio of smart home devices that provide contextual awareness to Alexa, enabling it to sense the home environment and adjust appliances, temperature, and lighting for enhanced customer comfort. Key job responsibilities -Architecting and guiding the development of embedded software throughout the product lifecycle. Designing, developing, and verifying secure, maintainable, robust, and scalable embedded software for next-generation smart home devices. -Collaborating cross-functionally with various teams (product, platform software, hardware, manufacturing, etc.). -Ensuring the performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications and devices. -Delivering technical documentation, source code, build scripts, and investigation reports. Performing tasks related to debugging, prototyping, beta testing, and production software development. -Driving engineering best practices and raising the quality of design reviews, API development, documentation, firmware code, and testing. -Utilizing tools and techniques for efficient embedded system development, debugging, testing, and optimization. -Building expertise in core wireless technologies such as WiFi and Bluetooth. A day in the life Embedded SDEs at Amazon are responsible for defining, architecting, and building innovative product experiences that customers love and use daily. They are at the forefront of designing larger systems and creating long-term designs for Amazon's products and services. Daily activities involve writing clean, syntactically correct code in languages like C/C++, scripting languages, and build system syntaxes. They work on creating and testing devices, often dealing with embedded systems, which require a deep understanding of common data structures (linked lists, hash tables, queues, stacks, trees), their usage, runtimes, and memory implications. Familiarity with common algorithms, their runtimes, and implementation strategies is essential for Sr. Embedded SDEs. They also engage in system design, reading data sheets, user manuals, and discussing architecture and design as part of their routine. Continuous learning and the ability to adapt to new technologies and languages are encouraged, as Sr. Embedded SDEs are expected to shape and share Amazon's mission of being the most customer-centric company by innovating and improving customer experiences. Sr. Embedded SDEs at Amazon play a crucial role in defining, architecting, and building innovative products and services, leveraging their expertise in embedded systems, coding, data structures, algorithms, and system design, while continuously learning and adapting to new technologies to enhance customer experiences. About the team The Amazon Branded Connected Devices (ABCD) team develops firmware, backend, and app software for Amazon's smart home devices like Smart Plug, Echo Glow, and Air Quality Monitor. Their vision is to create intelligent and convenient smart home devices that enhance efficiency. The team prioritizes work-life balance, recognizing its importance for overall happiness and fulfillment. Basic Qualifications - 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience - 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience - 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience - Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team - Experience in embedded development in C/C+- Experience with RTOS - Experience in embedded software design, development and debugging Preferred Qualifications - 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience - Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent - Experience leading and influencing your team or organization - Experience with embedded Linux development - Excellent judgment, organizational, and problem-solving skills - Comfortable taking initiative and working across teams - Excellence in technical communication with peers, partners, and non-technical co-workers Amazon is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace. Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
