The Operational Services organization at Schwab partners with teams across the firm to deliver on service promises to Schwab clients. The Operations Transformation Office (OTO) is responsible for transforming Operational Services into a highly scalable organization, while creating a culture of excellence in how we create shared value for clients, manage risk, cultivate talent, and collaborate with partners across the firm. Within the OTO our Business Technology team creates web applications and automation jobs to provide scalability and improve the experience for the Operations employees processing work.

 

As a Business Led Development developer, you create applications by working directly with the operations employees and learning their processes. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of software development: gathering business requirements, developing the application, writing unit tests, and coordinating testing and deployment. Our applications may be completely automated jobs for moving and providing data into core systems and reports or also web applications for data entry and workflow management. We interact with many different internal core systems and a variety of projects in order to keep the core business operations functions running as smoothly and efficiently as possible.

 

Application Development

Developing and deploying solutions inclusive of unit, regression and functional test plansParticipating and assisting in application architecture functionsWorking independently or with a team on low, moderate and highly complex programming tasksDeveloping and testing internal web applications, including UI designSupporting existing applications using VBA, C#, Javascript and similar technologiesAnalyzing software problems utilizing debugging tools/methods and code fixesDesigning, creating and managing database tablesAutomating user interface interactions using programmingPerforming Peer Code Reviews and helping to communicate coding standardsAssisting in mentoring Jr level associates in programming practices and designOptimizing applications for memory and processing requirements

Business Solution Development

Using business knowledge to coordinate various solutions/improvements to enhance operational scalabilityLeading discussions with the business during analysis and problem solving sessionsAnalyzing business processes and providing technical solutionsCommunicating technical aspects of business processesAssisting with measuring impact of application and prioritizing future deliverables and dependenciesRelating technical terms and concepts to non-technical business usersPartnering with internal business units to write user stories, success criteria, and JIRA ticketsScoping projects for effort and risk. Helping to define tasks for each deliverableEstablishes appropriate expectations for development to be completed while using an Agile approach, demoing projects regularly and responding to feedback What you have At least 6 years of demonstrated experience with full-stack application development and progressive levels of responsibility.Abilities in developing web and or desktop solutions using some of the following language(s) (VBA, Python, C#/VB.NET, Blazor, Javascript, HTML, Angular)Strong knowledge of dynamic website design and comfort with various technologies including (SOAP/RESTful Web Services, ASP.NET/MVC, XML, JSON, Angular)Ability to interpret business requirements / user stories into technical deliverablesWorking knowledge of SQL and database designSelf-starter who can drive and execute against outcomesFocused and versatile team player that is comfortable under pressureAttention to and appreciation for detail with proven ability to manage multiple tasks and deliver quality outcomes within short timeframesSuperior communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as the ability to develop concise and effective communications tailored to specific audiencesProven creativity and resourcefulness in uncovering sources of informationExcellent problem-solving and advanced critical-thinking skillsAbility to train and develop less experienced application developersFinancial services and especially Schwab experience strongly preferred

 

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
