Job Description Summary

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the procurement and acquisition of goods and services for Nationwide that deliver value and work to enhance processes and drive efficiency. Negotiates and executes basic complexity contracts with suppliers, across on or more domains (categories), to build procurement skills and gain experience. Processes contract documentation according to procurement policies and procedures.

Reporting Relationships:  Reports to Manager, Procurement. No direct or indirect reports. Develops and maintains collaborative partnerships across Procurement teams and cross functional teams, including: Legal, Finance, Risk Management and IT.

Core Duties and Responsibilities: 

Partners and collaborates with the other Procurement teams which manage intake, business pipelining, and data analytics, to provide a predictable, easy to follow, and efficient procurement process.Negotiates the terms of a basic or standard contract, including conditions, clauses, and service level agreements.Assesses supplier risk prior to contract and collaborates with applicable risk partners, e.g., Information Risk Management, for additional specialized assessments or necessary contract provisions.Executes and processes a new or renewal contract according to procurement policies and procedures, including project documentation, approvals, and signatures.Performs other duties as assigned.

Typical Skills and Experiences: 

Education:  Undergraduate degree in supply management, procurement, business, finance, accounting, management information systems, economics or related field preferred.

License/Certification/Designation:  Procurement, purchasing, or project management designations, as applicable.

Experience:  Typically, 3-5 years’ experience in procurement, business, category management and contracting; or equivalent professional experience in other closely related industries.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:  Basic knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of supply chain management, procurement or other related industry. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and math skills required in order to negotiate with suppliers. Ability to work in project teams towards common objectives. Focus on timely communication, efficiency, speed and quality. Highly organized and able to manage multiple efforts running concurrently. Proficiency in common office software like Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and HR Business Partner.
