The Senior Strategic Sourcing Engineer – Components role supports the Strategic Sourcing organization in developing, managing, analyzing and preparing recommendations on sourcing initiatives for Mechanical Components, Finished Goods, and Secondary Processing sourcing. Senior Analysts play a key role in understanding the strategic sourcing process, developing and presenting insightful reports for developing commodity sourcing strategy and participating in ITW cross-functional and cross-divisional sourcing teams/initiatives. Number-based opportunity assessment and fact-based negotiation are the key tools in driving costs closer to ideal costs and enhancing product margins. Self-management and capability of supporting negotiation preparations, advanced sourcing tactics such as value engineering, and assessing supplier capabilities, and experience in purchasing operations are expected.

In this role, the Senior Strategic Sourcing Engineer will act as a resource to mine and analyze data across multiple ERP systems and utilize standardized tools such as MS Excel and Market Intelligence Portals to synthesize marketplace information into a cohesive sourcing strategy.

Key Deliverables:

Data mining and analysisTake existing internal and external data and evaluate and communicate anomalies and opportunitiesResolve internal and external data calculation errors and validate final calculationsProvide comprehensive analysis to support strategic sourcing solutionsCreate and maintain the Components databaseUtilize third-party tools to drive data cleansing and standardization

Coordinate RFQ’sGenerate a minimum of $1.5 million in savings for categories in scope.Work with ITW divisions to obtain and validate commodity sourcing requirementsWork with the supply base to ensure a timely and efficient RFQ processCreate comprehensive analysis of supplier quotations to aid in the sourcing selection process

Market AnalysisCapture commodity market data and create comprehensive market and supplier summaries to aid sourcing strategies.Track commodity shortages, price increases, Force Majeures, and other events to ensure supply continuity.

QualificationsBachelor of Science from an accredited Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Engineering Technology or equivalent engineering program is required. 3+ years of experience.in several manufacturing methods is required such as: machining, sand casting, die casting, investment casting, fabricated sheet metal, stamping, mechanical assemblies, value-add assemblies, injection molding, etc.Ability to work 5 days a week at the Glenview, IL corporate office with flexibility on hours.Experience in designing products is required.Experience in DFM, VA/VE, and cost-out activities and product teardowns is required.Experience in cost modeling is strongly preferred.Experience in using Apriori, Costimator, Micro Estimating or Boothroyd Dewhurst (DFMA) is strongly preferred.Candidates with certifications like Six Sigma, CQA, CQE, and SAVE are given preference. Previous experience in dealing with suppliers, PPAP process documentation, implementing process and design changes in products with support from cross functional teams is important.Experience in Supplier Development is preferred.Experience in Tool and Die Making (Tool Design) is preferred.Commercial awareness and experience from low cost suppliers.

Compensation Information:

The compensation package for the role offers a competitive base salary ranging from $95K - $110K annually.
