## **About the role:** Collaborates with stakeholders within the team to build and maintain backend services and solutions to support user-facing products, downstream services, or infrastructure tools and platforms used across Uber. ## **About the Team:** Merchant Offers is one of the fastest-growing areas in the company, balancing the marketplace among merchants, advertisers, consumers, and Uber. As a Backend Engineer on this team, you will drive the implementation of a variety of new discount constructs and functionalities, collaborating with other engineers and a variety of cross-functional teams, including data scientists, product managers, and operations. If you're driven to build, innovate, and lead in a high-stakes environment, this is your platform to shine and shape the future of commerce. ## **Minimum qualifications:** - PhD or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field **OR** 3-years full-time Software Engineering work experience, **WHICH INCLUDES** 2-years total technical software engineering experience in one or more of the following areas: - Programming language (e.g. C, C++, Java, Python, or Go) - A desire to be part of a team that delivers impactful results every day - Innate drive to deliver results and a deep sense of accountability for your work - Passion for designing and building hyper-scale distributed systems - Resilience, determination, ownership mindset, and a keen appetite for collaborative efforts - Committed to crafting clear, maintainable, and reusable software - Note the 2-years total of specialized software engineering experience may have been gained through education and full-time work experience, additional training, coursework, research, or similar (OR some combination of these). The years of specialized experience are not necessarily in addition to the years of Education & full-time work experience indicated. ## **Technical skills:** Preferred: - 6-years full-time Software Engineering work experience - Product engineering - Scalability engineering - Distributed systems ## **What the Candidate Will Do** - Design, develop, and maintain robust and scalable software solutions - Collaborate with product managers, cross engineering teams, data scientists and other partners to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications - Identify opportunities and lead of the entire development lifecycle end-to-end, from architecture design and coding to testing and deployment - Conduct thorough code reviews, offering constructive feedback to maintain high code quality and elevate coding standards - Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and industry trends, evaluating their potential impact on our software systems and recommending appropriate integrations or improvements - Mentor and guide other engineers, providing technical leadership and encouraging a collaborative and growth-oriented team environment - Hands-on experience in productionizing machine learning or deep learning models in production - Proficiency in building batch and real-time data pipelines At Uber, we ignite opportunity by setting the world in motion. For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$185,000 per year - USD$205,500 per year.
