Sr Mechanical Engineer
A Day in Your Life at MKS: As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Photon Control Inc., a subsidiary of MKS Instruments, Inc. you play a key role in the design, development and delivery of cutting-edge optical sensor solutions required for advanced semiconductor fabrication. In this role, you will report to the Director, Advanced Development. You Will Make an Impact By: + Lead the design, construction and qualification of cutting-edge automated test equipment requiring integration of hardware and software for use in development of new optical technologies and prototype qualification. + Perform thermal and mechanical simulations for the development of new optical sensors and characterization equipment. + Work cross-functionally with other team members to correlate physical and thermal characteristics with optical performance to drive understanding and development of next generation optical sensors. + Conduct and oversee design reviews and failure modes and effects analysis. + Mentor junior engineers in best practices for test system design, construction and validation. + Identify and communicate with external suppliers working with internal supply chain to source and qualify new components. + Develop and maintain test documentation, including test plans, test procedures, and test reports. + Use statistical analysis software to analyze data and draw data-based conclusions. + Generate and supervise the generation of engineering documentation including reports, drawings, bills of materials, assembly instructions, etc. + Contribute to culture of intellectual property generation. Skills You Bring: + Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or equivalent. + 7+ years of related experience in design and development of complex electro/mechanical or optical/mechanical systems. + Extensive hands-on experience in the design, fabrication and validation of automated test systems. + Proven ability to lead and influence in a collaborative, cross-functional group to meet strategic objectives in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary environment. + High degree of proficiency in mechanical design, SolidWorks and mechanical component fabrication and geometric tolerancing. + FEA knowledge and experience in thermal simulation/management. + Experience in designing and implementing control and feedback systems. + Ability to help guide the big picture combined with strong attention to detail. + Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills. Preferred Skills: + Experience with optical systems and/or sensors. + Experience with design for excellence (DfX) methods. + P. Eng. or eligible for P. Eng. Physical Demands and Working Conditions: + Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. + Perform activities such as sitting, standing, or typing for extended periods of time. + Dedication to safety to mitigate hazards that may include heat, cold, fumes, strong magnets, confined spaces, lasers, microwaves, and vacuum/pressure systems. + Flexible and willing to work in very fast-paced environment where tasks and priorities may change often. + Excellent time management skills and commitment to meet deadlines.
