Overview This position is responsible for managing a team of operations personnel providing support for Transmission Operations, Balancing Authority functions, and compliance within the Transmission Control Center (TCC). This includes responsibility for operations planning, outage coordination, and real-time engineering support to the LG&E/KU Transmission Operator (TOP) and Balancing Authority (BA) within the Transmission Control Center (TCC) for the safe and reliable operation of the transmission system. This position is also responsible for ensuring compliance with NERC Reliability Standards, SERC operating policies, Reliability Coordinator operating procedures, and FERC regulations; this includes the development and management of compliance documentation, processes, procedures, and internal controls. Responsibilities Ensures Electric System Coordinators are provided with 24/7 on-call operations engineering support, as needed. Ensures that operational planning analysis, real-time assessments and other operational studies are performed, as required. Provides leadership for the outage coordination process, ensures timely completion of outage coordination studies, and provides input to the outage scheduling process to assist with the successful execution of the capital plan. Provides oversight for the management of transmission system models, outage study tools and automation used to support transmission operations. Provides oversight for the management of the real-time network model and advanced applications within the Energy Management System (EMS). Ensures proper training is developed and delivered to operations support personnel. Ensures engineering support is provided to support operator training, as needed. This includes oversight for Operator Training Simulator (OTS) and development of training scenarios. Ensures facility ratings are accurately maintained and applied in the operating horizon. Ensures the proper coordination of ratings, topology changes and other information with the Reliability Coordinator and other external entities, as required. Performs post-event analysis following significant operational events to identify lessons learned and develop mitigation to address potential impacts to operations. Provides leadership for the identification and development of operational projects to support the reliable operation of the transmission system. Provides oversight for the commissioning process and integration of inverter-based resources (IBRs) connecting to the transmission system. Maintains documentation to support allocation of capital labor charges in the Transmission Control Center (TCC). Ensures that LG&E/KU Transmission Operations and Balancing Area functions comply with applicable FERC, NERC and SERC policies and standards. Files reports with NERC, SERC, and DOE as required. Ensures the proper documentation is developed and maintained to support compliance requirements. Represents Transmission Operations and oversees subject matter experts during compliance audits and mock audits. Provides technical reports and after-the-fact analyses for submission to a variety of internal and external recipients, including regulatory agencies. Acts as a liaison between Transmission Operations and other departments to facilitate the flow of real-time information, as necessary. Participates in relevant industry working groups/meetings and represents the company, as required. Performs other duties as assigned by Director, Transmission Operations and Compliance. Qualifications Education & Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a minimum of 12 years’ experience in transmission operations or engineering is required. Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree preferred. Supervisory and strong interpersonal/communication skills. Engineering and leadership skills. Strong knowledge of transmission operations, balancing authority, real-time processes, real-time tools and NERC reliability and compliance. Working knowledge of applicable safety rules and procedures. Ability to understand complex systems and the application of various types of technologies. Strong decision-making skills.
