As the Senior Counsel - Health Care Law, you will work under the direction of the Senior Vice President and General Counsel to provide expert legal counsel and guidance relating to healthcare operational issues, including but not limited to patient consent, bioethics, risk management, medical staff, academic affairs, licensing and certification, policies, contractual arrangements (rights and responsibilities), regulatory requirements, managed care, Stark and Anti-Kickback compliance, and other health care operations subject to state and federal laws and regulations. In addition, you will assist the SVP and General Counsel in providing guidance relating to our status as a public entity, including, but not limited to, Board Governance, open meeting law, public procurement, public records, and general business relationships with the government and private entities on all aspects of health care delivery.
As the Senior Counsel - Health Care Law, you will not only be a legal expert but also a vital business partner to leaders across the organization. As a member of the Valleywise Health Legal Services team, you will collaborate with us, playing an essential role in researching and advising the organization on a wide array of matters affecting the day-to-day operations of a public health care system.

The Maricopa County Special Health Care District, dba Valleywise Health, is Arizona’s longest-serving public teaching hospital and safety net health care system. Valleywise Health operates the largest public health care system in Arizona, providing medical education programs, emergency, trauma, maternity, and general hospital services, behavioral health services, managed care services, and services to the medically underserved. Valleywise Health provides care for over 14,400 inpatients and nearly 400,000 outpatients annually. Valleywise Health includes the Valleywise Health Medical Center, the Diane and Bruce Halle Burn Center, Arizona’s only nationally verified burn center and the second busiest in the country receiving patients from surrounding states as well as the entire State of Arizona, a Trauma Center verified by the American College of Surgeons to care for adults and children, two emergency rooms, three behavioral health centers that include Maricopa County Superior Court courtroom facilities, two comprehensive health centers and a network of Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) that serve residents across Maricopa County. In addition, Valleywise Health is a founding partner of the Creighton University Arizona Health Education Alliance, continuing its historical role as a public teaching hospital.

Annual Salary Range: $118,289.60 - $174,470.40
This position is Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; however, it is expected this role will be available to support the operation of a 365/24/7 health care system. This role is onsite, with the opportunity to work remotely two (2) days a week.
