Job Summary
The Senior Application Systems Analyst reports to the Information Systems Manager and is responsible for the coordination, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of clinical applications, including EHR systems. This role leads projects with defined scope and objectives, ensuring applications support user needs, workflow efficiency, and organizational goals.
This position serves as a technical expert and strategic liaison, collaborating with medical staff, administration, IT teams, and vendors to evaluate, enhance, and implement application solutions. Responsibilities include analyzing complex issues, designing system workflows, and leading testing, training, and go-live support for new software installations and upgrades.
The Senior Application Systems Analyst acts as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for assigned applications, guiding system configuration, optimization, and issue resolution. The role also supports process improvement initiatives to enhance navigation, data collection, and system usability for end users.
This position may be required to provide on-call customer support on a 24x7 rotating basis, ensuring timely and effective issue resolution.
Essential Functions Provides senior-level support for resolving complex application issues that cannot be addressed by junior analysts, performing root cause analysis to prevent recurrence and escalating issues to vendors or developers when necessary. Leads the design, development, testing, and implementation of major application enhancements and integrations to optimize system performance and align with business objectives. Manages large-scale projects, such as system upgrades, new implementations, or enterprise-wide integrations, ensuring timelines, budgets, and resources are effectively managed. Collaborates with developers, database administrators, and IT staff to maintain optimal application performance, security, and reliability across the organization. Analyzes current application usage and identifies opportunities for improvement, recommending new features or solutions to enhance functionality and efficiency. Acts as a primary point of contact between IT and business stakeholders, gathering and translating detailed business requirements into technical specifications that support strategic initiatives. Develops, documents, and enforces application-related policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with security and regulatory requirements. Creates and maintains comprehensive documentation of application configurations, workflows, and troubleshooting processes for knowledge sharing and audit purposes. Conducts training sessions for IT staff and end-users to enhance their understanding and utilization of applications, serving as a subject matter expert (SME) for specific systems or technologies. Provides mentorship and guidance to junior analysts, fostering professional development and ensuring consistent application support across the team. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field required or A combination of education and progressive experience in application support or analysis may be considered in lieu of a degree 4-6 years of experience in application support, development, or systems analysis, with at least two (2) years working in a healthcare setting required 2-4 years of experience managing large-scale IT projects or leading cross-functional teams required Expertise in HL7 messaging standards, interface engine tools, and enterprise-level applications required Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesIn-depth knowledge in systems and information technology in various work environments, including short and long term planning, project implementation and application maintenance. Strong demonstrated skills in information technology including system/data integration and solving complex problems. Strong leadership and communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate with staff at all levels of the organization, internal and external. Strong analytical, organizational and presentation skills. Ability to work independently and proactively to take initiative to solve complex problems. In-depth knowledge of the latest technologies, tools and the ability to develop and maintain systems & applications of computers. Administer application security and access controls to insure all credentials, corporate compliance, HIPPA, IS security and technology procedures are followed. Participate in policy and procedure development as it relates to security, access provisioning, downtime procedures, backup operations and disaster recovery activities.
