Summary The Spiritual Care Minister assists the patient and their family in coping with the psychological, social, emotional and spiritual needs in time of illness and/or stress. Provides an atmosphere of concern and recognition of the dignity of the human person in the light of the gospel of Christ. Helps preserve a patient-centered attitude of care. Gives the patient an opportunity to verbalize feelings regarding their illness, assesses needs and documents interventions. Promotes a team approach with other disciplines. Qualifications Education Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited program in Theology or related religious field is required. Master’s degree from an accredited program in Theology or related religious field is preferred. Experience Qualifications One unit of Clinical Pastoral Education from an accredited ACPE program is required. Being a member of a religious order, clergy, or a lay person with two years of relevant experience in care of the sick and dying may be considered in lieu of Clinical Pastoral Education. Two units of Clinical Pastoral Education from an accredited ACPE program is preferred. The appointment of priests and deacons to the pastoral care staff of a Catholic institution must have the explicit approval or confirmation of the local bishop in collaboration with the administration of the institution. Certifications, Licenses and Registrations Current certification with NACC (National Association of Catholic Chaplains), APC (Association of Professional Chaplains), NAJC (Neshama: Associate of Jewish Chaplains), CASC (Canadian Association of Spiritual Care) is preferred.
