Speech-Language Pathologist - Head and Neck Cancer Specialty
Overview: UVA Medical Center is seeking a passionate and skilled Speech-Language Pathologist to join our team, specializing in the care of head and neck cancer patients in both inpatient and outpatient environments. This position offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with a dedicated interdisciplinary team, including speech language pathologists, head and neck surgeons, fellows and residents, advanced practice providers and nurses in a supportive, patient-centered environment. In addition to caring for patients with head and neck cancer, this role also requires knowledge and skills to support the inpatient speech language pathology service. Key Requirements: Provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment for head and neck cancer patients, addressing speech, voice, and swallowing disorders. Perform and interpret modified barium swallow studies to assess swallowing function and guide treatment plans. Manage tracheoesophageal punctures (TEPs) and provide prosthetic management for patients with laryngectomy. Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans that align with the patient’s needs and treatment goals. Educate patients and families on the rehabilitation process, including strategies for optimal communication and swallowing outcomes. Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, case conferences, and clinical teaching opportunities with trainees and staff. Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and program development within the Head and Neck Cancer Program. Prior experience performing FEES is preferred, although training is available. + Performs evaluations of speech language and swallowing function according to professional standards and departmental guidelines. + Demonstrates knowledge of intervention options and executes a program of skilled speech language pathology intervention. + Actively participates in professional growth of self and others. + Actively participates in quality improvement and program development. **In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.** Position Compensation Range: $70,595.20 - $112,944.00 Annual MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology Experience: 6 months relevant experience Licensure: Licensed to practice Speech-Language Pathology from the Virginia Board of Examiners for Audiology and Speech Pathology required. Eligibility for Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) or certified with Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) is required. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 – 50lbs.
