Job Description:

This Specialist position in the mechanical engineering team, with related experience over a broad range of disciplines including product design, analysis, manufacturing, and testing. This role is responsible for mechanical design tasks such as technology research, specification generation, interface definition, component selection, component 3D CAD modeling, data collection, product documentation and field testing.

The Advanced Sensing division is a part of L3Harris’ Agile Development Group and specializes in developing disruptive, next-generation technologies for advanced Unmanned Air Systems (UAS / UAV), advanced radar systems, next-generation weapon systems, and other RF sensor technologies using small company agility and big company experience.

Essential Functions: 

Primary engineering responsibility for mechanical design tasks such as requirements analysis, specification generation, interface definition, component selection, component 3D CAD modeling, data collection, Product documentation, and product validation.Schedule, cost, and technical responsibility at the component or subsystem levelPrototype and Test component parts and assembliesDevelop test plans and procedures for mechanical subsystemsPerform test and evaluation of component parts and systemsParticipate in peer reviews, PDRs, CDRs, and other required design reviewsParticipate in interdisciplinary design teams and reviewsAdhere to company processes for product development, configuration management, purchasing, etc.Direct Designers/ Technicians as part of a design teamPerform trade studies to determine optimal designsConceptualize new designs to solve mechanical demandsEngineering documentation/ Drawings IAW ANSI Y14.100Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.Position requires an active DoD Secret security clearance 2+ years experience in mechanical packaging design and cooling of high power electronicsProfessional experience using ANSI Y14.5 dimensioning and tolerancing2+ years experience in the use of 3D CAD modeling Experience using Microsoft Office products

Preferred Additional Skills:

Masters degree in mechanical engineering or related field and/or equivalent experience desiredSolidworks and/or CREO experience highly preferredWorking knowledge of common manufacturing processes      Work well in a team environmentExcellent people skills to include collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team environment.Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, & presentation)
