As a Process Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in the creation of optics destined for cutting-edge space optical systems, terrestrial observatories, and advanced high-energy laser projects. Essential Functions: + Master and apply a variety of optical fabrication techniques, including surface generation, traditional grinding and polishing, abrasive water jet cutting, as well as advanced methods like computer-controlled polishing, ion figuring, and MRF. + Develop and execute comprehensive manufacturing instructions. + Troubleshoot and resolve complex manufacturing issues. + Conduct thorough evaluations and analyses to enhance optical fabrication processes. + Define requirements for tooling and fixtures essential for manufacturing operations. + Accurately forecast the time and resources needed to complete manufacturing tasks. + Lead initiatives to improve current processes or introduce new processing techniques. + Collaborate effectively within a cross-functional team to meet project objectives. Qualifications: + Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience. + Previous experience implementing and developing optical fabrication processes. + Ability to obtain a Secret clearance. Preferred Additional Skills: + Strong mechanical aptitude and general understanding of manufacturing and assembly techniques. + Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFM/DFMA). + Basic understanding and application of geometric dimension and tolerancing (GD&T). + Demonstrate appropriate computer knowledge in basic Microsoft Office software applications. + Familiarity with CAD/CAM systems, and MATLAB. In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in New York State is $71,500 - $132,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
