L3Harris Londonderry, a leading designer and manufacturer of laser, night vision and electro-optic devices is seeking a Mechanical Designer to pursue a career in a fast-paced company where new designs become production reality. As a member of our product development staff, you will support mechanical teams in the creation of new technology initiatives and advancements. A variety of Mechanical Design skills, specifically in the development of high technology weapon-mounted, helmet-mounted and hand-held military products will be required to bring projects from concept to production. 

Essential Job Duties:

Documentation of parts and assemblies for products, tooling, and test equipmentDesign and integration of opto-mechanical components and subsystemsDesign and integration of electro-mechanical components and subsystems, including packaging of both rigid and flexible circuits and related interconnectsDesign and integration of RF electronics and antennasDesign of molded plastic partsDesign of machined metal and plastic partsDesign for harsh environments, including shock, extreme temperature and immersion Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA)Design for size and weight requirementsDesign to Unit Production Cost (DTUPC) requirements Perform rapid prototyping of parts and assemblies sufficient for user concept demonstration

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years prior Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:

Academic knowledge or professional experience with other related technical disciplines (electronics, software, optics, sensors, and lasers)Experience creating Model Based Definition (MBD) drawingsMachine shop experience including work with milling and lathe operationsExperience with solid modeling (part and assembly) and drafting - Siemens NX and Teamcenter software preferredDetailed knowledge of molded plastic design, materials, adhesives and design for manufacturingStrong written and oral communication skills
