Job Description Summary:

The Control Specialist is responsible for providing support and oversight of the operational control environment for the designated practice areas. The Specialist must consistently identify risk, articulate the risk, and propose solutions to address risk to the practice area control manager and the control leadership team. The Specialist consistently displays a balanced, cross-functional perspective, collaborating with the business, Control, and relevant Northern Trust counterparts (e.g., Risk, Legal, Compliance, Audit, etc.) to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity.
Major Duties:
With support from management, assist in implementing a robust risk appetite framework tailored to the WM business while adhering to the enterprise requirements.
Identify, develop, monitor and analyze various risk metrics and key performance indicators to identify potential areas of concern. Support the development of dashboards to report risk metrics to WM leadership and to the enterprise consistent with the Enterprise Risk Management Policies.
Support management in implementing and maintain other Enterprise Risk Management efforts including but not limited to:
Policy and Document Governance
Committee Governance
Risk Profile Monitoring and Reporting
Issue Management Resolution and Reporting
Support WM Partners in the implementation and ongoing practice of all Enterprise Risk Management compliance by explaining various risk concepts, supporting training efforts
Support key Control programs such as Issues Management and Incident Management policies and standards. Including the definition of the methodology, the execution of the programs, and to ensure the implementation and tracking of agreed actions.
Foster and promote Northern Trust’s commitment to a strong risk management culture by developing a control mindset within the business.
Knowledge:
Professional with extensive business risk and control experience
Knowledge of the firm and industry
Ability to explain difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus
Experience with creating management dashboards and score cards
Strong communication skills, verbal and written
Attention to detail
Experience:
College or University degree is preferred
7+ years of Risk & Control experience required
Financial services experience
