Central Maine Healthcare is seeking a Sonographer to join our Breast Care Center team!
The Sonographer performs patient assessments, acquires and analyzes data obtained using ultrasound, and uses independent judgment and systematic problem-solving methods to produce high quality diagnostic information and optimize patient care.
Essential Duties:
Performs clinical assessment of the patient and conditions in order to select the appropriate equipment for the sonography examination based on established protocols to be followed.
Explains the test to the patient.
Instructs and assists the patient in assuming the physical position for examination.
Demonstrates ability to assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedure - makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Provides a summary of findings to the physician or health care provider to aid in patient diagnosis and management.
Education and experience:
Prefer two years of radiologic/imaging experience.
Specific experience and training in Ultrasound and proficient knowledge of Ultrasound Equipment ARDMS Registered or ARDMS candidate. Graduate of a CAAHEP-approved school of Ultrasonography or has received education and clinical experience and demonstrated competence to obtain appropriate ARDMS certification within a year of hire preferred.
Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification required. Recertification of existing employees is due within one month of expiration date
Knowledge and understanding of general anatomy, physiology and medical terminology
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
Ability to engage patients and team members utilizing the CMH Experience Standards

Basic computer knowledge
Excellent Customer Service Skills
Ability to prioritize and use critical thinking skills
Ability to read and communicate effectively in English
Additional languages preferred
Effectively communicate with patients and co-workers in a supportive and tactful manner
Ability to remain calm in a busy or stressful situation
Represent the organization in a positive manner, support and encourages strong morale within the team and maintain effective, professional relationships with others
