GTE Customer Operations is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Solutions Engineer to ensure reliable and efficient operations of our organization's systems and services. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing ITSM processes supporting large scalable and fault-tolerant systems, with a focus on managing operational risk, prioritizing resolution of issues based on potential for business impact and implementing observability best practices across domains. Key Responsibilities:  

Design systems and processes to manage operational risk:  Collaborate with development squads and other stakeholders to identify potential risks.  Analyze and evaluate potential impact and likelihood of occurrence once risks are identified.  Implement various risk mitigation strategies based on the risk assessment.  Continuously monitor and review the effectiveness of risk strategies.  Reduce Mean Time To Identify (MTTI) and Mean time to restore (MTTR) Study historical trends in terms of stability and performance using system metrics.  Trace system problems using monitoring tools.  Work with technology architects and enablement team to drive efficient usage of internal tooling and communication platforms such as Slack, JIRA, Bitbucket, GitHub, Splunk, Datadog, BigPanda, error logging services, and Confluence.  Collaborate with observability/SRE leads, Product Owners, software engineers, and security engineers to ensure continuous improvement and make systems more secure and reliable every day.  Work with IT and business partners to prioritize and deliver system defect fixes and enhancements. 

 

 Preferred skills:  

Expertise in ITSM processes.  Hands-on experience with Automation and scripting languages. Drive root-cause investigation and problem solving deep-dives.  Excellent technical troubleshooting skills.  Strong understanding of cloud and containerization technologies (AWS, Kubernetes).  Ability to enhance efficiency and reliability across infrastructure.  Expertise in observability tools such as Splunk, Datadog, and BigPanda.  Familiarity with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) processes and pipelines.

Experience

Ten years of related software engineering experience A comprehensive understanding of agile environments Extensive knowledge of contemporary frameworks and emerging technologies A history of practicing DevOps and SecOpsA strong background in business operations and strategies, including knowledge of global business, technology trends and the financial services industry

Solid negotiation, facilitation, consensus building and influencing capabilitiesAbility to identify patterns and problems across teams and deliver effective solutionsOpenness and adaptability to respond to fast-moving circumstancesA design thinking and test-driven development mindsetExcellent oral and written communication skills, and an aptitude for working in teamsKnowledgeExperience developing or architecting cloud-hosted, responsive web applications using Java, HTML5 and CSSS3Strong background in code reviewHigh-level proficiency with client-side JavaScript frameworks, server-side frameworks, and NoSQL databasesFamiliarity with event-based System of Engagement architectures and integration with API exposing microservicesDeep understanding of layered solutions and designsCognizance of security concerns, from access control and authentication to secured SDLC processesUnderstanding of DCI/MDM systems, data ingestion and cloud-scale data sets

Education
