Short Description:

The Product Specialist is the expert for a technical development in-house set of web based software products. Leads in software testing, UAT sessions, requirement gathering, data corrections, business rules, and user or systems training.

Complete Description:

The Department’s regulatory system has been and is being developed based on the Service Oriented Architecture principles, with over 30 services and over 15 UI applications implemented to date. The services are based on MS Windows Communication Foundation 4.0/4.5. The workflow-related components use MS Windows Workflow Foundation 3.5/4.0. Front-end composite web applications (UI) currently being developed are utilizing MVVM approach applied to the MS MVC Framework 3.0 (Razor engine).

 

The Department has multiple application environments for development, deployment, and testing of the system (Development, QA, Pre-Production, and Production).  The development team members work with other ODI employees and contractors to ensure proper progression of the delivered product through each of these environments.  The development team members also work with the database team to ensure that related database scripts and database schema changes are implemented correctly and timely.

 

Each environment consists of multiple web/application servers (currently Windows/IIS) in a web farm configuration.  All development is performed utilizing standard development environment (Visual Studio 10 or later) and Oracle PL/SQL developer.

 

The Product Specialist is responsible for analysis and testing of all application code owned by the Development Team.  Product Specialist is typically are involved one or more agile (SCRUM) sprints and report to the Lead Programmer, Software Architect, or the Application Manager.

 

Normally the Lead Programmer or Software Architect will design and prototype the target product. The team then will break the deliverables down into a set of tasks (may be UI or service-related). Every member of the development team is required to track and estimate hours for each of their tasks.  Once a task is assigned to the Product Specialist, it is up to that programmer to follow the architectural and development standards and complete the task, working either on their own or in a smaller team.  Product Specialist may have to track down business rules while interacting with the Business Owners, Users, or the Business Analysts.  Product Specialist will also conduct user acceptance testing, complete testing tasks with the developers and end users, and partial training of the systems.
