Software Sr Engineer

Job purpose

The Senior (Sr) Software Engineer is responsible for leading and developing new medical image analysis software in the orthopedic surgical field. This position will combine engineering principles with medical sciences to design and create software to support existing and newly designed products. The Sr Software Engineer will work within a team of engineers, scientists and other colleagues to design to understand the clinical use cases, usability, and system requirements to create and innovative and informed product.

Duties and responsibilities

The primary duties and responsibilities of the Software Engineer are as follows:

• Develop C++ application and library components

• Conduct code and document reviews to ensure compliance with standards and translate system requirements into appropriate software specifications.

• Design and develop software to support medical imaging and User Interface software.

• Create both unit-tests and automated integration testing alongside software development.

• Evaluate the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of the software in relation to the end-user requirements.

• Contribute to both quality documents, client facing instructions and technical internal documentation.

• Advise and assist in the application of instrumentation in clinical environments.

• Install, adjust, maintain, repair or provide technical support for biomedical software.

• Working cross-functionally with clinical researchers to understand end-user needs and requirements and map them to software design specifications.

Qualifications

The qualifications for this job are as follows:

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

• 5+ years’ experience developing software in compiled, object-oriented programming languages such as C++ or Java, software User Interfaces, especially with QT, Python.

• 5+ years’ experience developing and implementing image analysis or computer vision algorithms

• Extensive experience using OpenCV or ITK

• Experience in the medical device industry, especially with quality standards, is a plus.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

• Exceptional problem-solving skills and ability to maintain focus when dealing with ambiguity.

• Demonstrated and strong understanding of technical aspects of software management.
