Software Engineer

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Software Engineer to work in our Used Fuel Disposition program. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located at our Materials and Fuels Complex.
INL is recognized as the lead national laboratory for DOE-NE, providing much of the nuclear research, development, and demonstration capability needed to move nuclear innovation forward to deployment. MFC hosts a unique combination of personnel, facilities and infrastructure and offers the ability to perform research and development of nuclear fuels from fuel development and fabrication through uranium recovery from used nuclear fuels. You will report to the program manager for Used Fuel Disposition.
*Responsibilities Include:*
You will develop engineered solutions using current and latest computing technologies to partner with legacy software applications complying with NQA-1 requirements. Apply experience in software and hardware engineering principles, theories, concepts, and technologies with complex engineered systems.
* Apply software engineering principles, theories, and concepts to processes and information display and visualization.
* Plan, develop and implement software-engineering solutions to complex chemical and metallurgical processing applications and related projects. This requires flowsheet modeling, material balance calculations, and material tracking methodologies.
* Support project plans and requirements, establish scope, cost and schedule estimates for development activities.
* Participate in technical reviews for process data analysis at various phases of development and provide recommendations for computer technology solutions to customers and management's needs.
* Maintain and upgrade a variety of database architectures and software systems, and develop new software capabilities to support chemical and metallurgical processing.
* Create new methodologies and architectures that grow the organizations' mission.
* Ensure Compliance with INL's safety, security, environmental, health and nuclear quality assurance requirements.
* Analyze source code and system design documentation, reports from users, and other technical artifacts to create reports and present to other staff and management assessments of code quality, the probable origin and possible effects of defects and anomalies, and recommendations for improvements and enhancements.
* Participate in professional development to maintain technical proficiency in current and latest technologies.
*Minimum Requirements:*
* Level 2: Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, computer information systems, information technology field, or related field, and 2-5 years experience. Master's degree in computer science, software engineering, computer information systems, information technology field, or related field, and 0-2 years experience.
* Level 3: Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, computer information systems, information technology field, or related field, and 6-9 years experience. Master's degree in computer science, software engineering, computer information systems, information technology field, or related field, and 3-5 years experience.
* Relevant experience using one or more of the following languages: Python, R, MatLab, Fortran, C/C , Pro-C .
* Familiarity with UNIX & LINUX operating systems
* This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
*The ideal candidate will have:*
* Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering with experience in Chemical, Metallurgical or Nuclear Engineering.
* Have experience with chemical, metallurgical or similar process plants, systems, and equipment and understand metallurgical accounting and statistics modeling.
*Job Information:*
* The pay range for this position is: Level 2 ($77,628 - $159,228) / Level 3 ($93,204 - $191,076). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
