Software Engineer

Participate in a 24/7 follow-the-sun global support model around deployment, maintenance, monitoring, response, and capacity planning for business-critical systems and infrastructure.

*Telecommuting permitted: work may be performed within normal commuting distance from the Red Hat, Inc. office in Raleigh, NC.

What You Will Do:

Provide on-call coverage during working hours as part of a rotation, as well as periodic rostered and planned on-call support on weekends.Contribute to network operation optimization efforts including performance analyzing and trouble remediation.Responsible for implementing new or augmenting of existing network infrastructure.Responsible for all parts of network upgrades including both software and hardware to ensure the environment is safe from ongoing security threats as well as business continuity threats.Analyze current networking technologies to match network hardware and software with business requirements to meet desired outcome.Stay current on latest developments in networking technologies to leverage the latest in networking architecture and security practices.Analyze network infrastructure to ensure the architecture effectively and efficiently supports the business requirements.Provide cross training to associate network and network engineers to ensure effective cross team knowledge transfer.Help maintain current network infrastructure and lead in network maintenance and upgrades as part of effective life cycle management.Collaborate daily with globally distributed team members and other engineering and development teams to troubleshoot and resolve incidents and service requests.Follow company policies and processes while completing technical tasks and implementing technical solutions.Provide supporting documentation to enable effective network use including installation, and procedural documentation.Identify, document and assist in the automation of operational support procedures and processes.Work closely with the ITSM teams to drive systems integration and automation, data quality improvements and governance activities.Advance innovation through utilization of Red Hat technologies that are new or still in the product development pipeline.

What You Will Bring:

Bachelor's degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field and six (6) years of experience in Network Engineering OR Eight (8) years of experience in Network Engineering.Must have six (6) years of experience with: key network administration, including designing, building, and validating IP networks across different vendors and topologies; Network architectures including core, distribution, and access, as well as experience across the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) stack; and Networking experience including LAN, WAN, switching and routing, IP, TCP, VPN, and AAA protocols.Must have five (5) years of experience with: DC architecture and technologies, as well as cloud connectivity technologies; Layer 2 protocols, including spanning tree, link aggregation, VLANs, 802.1q, and multi-chassis link support; Routing protocols including BGP, OSPF, RIP and static routing; Python, Ansible, and Git; and Juniper Routers and Switches Administration.Must have two (2) years of experience with: Arista Routers and Switches Administration; Firewall appliance Juniper SRX; Firewall appliance Cisco FirePower; Mist Wireless Administration; Cisco Wireless Administration; DC routing protocols including EVPN, MPLS; IPv6 Administration; and DC Cabling and Physical Infrastructure.Domestic travel required up to 15% of the time to conferences and company facilities. The salary range for this position is $122,491 - $151,170. Actual offer will be based on your qualifications.

Pay Transparency

Red Hat determines compensation based on several factors including but not limited to job location, experience, applicable skills and training, external market value, and internal pay equity. Annual salary is one component of Red Hat’s compensation package. This position may also be eligible for bonus, commission, and/or equity. For positions with Remote-US locations, the actual salary range for the position may differ based on location but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience.
