Software Development Manager, Pet Insurance

Chewy’s Pet Health is on a mission to build innovative solutions for our customers and our partner vets, such as our recent launch of Chewy’s first Telehealth service and Pet Insurance. Engineering plays a meaningful role in defining and implementing our platform roadmap. Your Role:

As a Software Development Manager (SDM) on the Pet Insurance team in Boston, MA, you will lead a team of skilled engineers to build and maintain scalable high-performance software solutions for Chewy’s Pet Insurance product. You will collaborate with vendors, product managers and designers to help pet parents learn about various insurance plans and purchase one giving them peace of mind for nose to tail care. As the leader of a dynamic team, this role offers a tremendous opportunity for professional growth in the leading online pet retailer in the US.

Responsibilities:

Manage and lead a team of 6-8 software engineers responsible for building Chewy’s Pet Insurance initiativesReview system architecture, design, and implementations, and provide feedback to individual contributorsDevelop, maintain, and improve upon a culture of operational excellence with consistent, repeatable processes and standardsPartner with our recruiting team to continue hiring your team and mentor the growth of the current hardworking teamDrive technical decisions and work with your partner TPM to plan, track, and deliver software projectsEstablish strong working relationships at all organizational levels and across functional teamsCollaborate with others in Engineering Management to drive standard methodologies in software design, development, testing, and production deploymentWork with your technical product manager and product owners to balance delivery of forward-looking roadmap initiatives with the existing backlog of iterative improvements and maintenance, in partnership with multiple support multiple teamsIdentify and lead team priorities and deliveries within the context of overall Chewy objectives

Minimum Qualifications:

Demonstrated history of implementing and managing multiple, significant software development projects3+ years of experience in formal Engineering Management of direct reports3+ years of experience in Full Stack Software Development as a software engineer or architect (this is a role that requires in-depth knowledge of both backend systems and front-end applications)Experience managing both high and low performers, including promoting within your team(s)Proven delivery experience working under an Agile/Scrum methodologyPrior hands-on experience with designing, building and deploying scalable, highly available systemsStrong communication skills with both technical and business audiencesBachelor's degree in computer science (or a related field) or equivalent work experience.Position may require travel

Preferred:

Experience in e-commerce or HealthcareExperience delivering projects via Continuous Integration / Continuous DeploymentRelevant Java ecosystem experience- preferably Spring Boot based applicationsRelevant experience in front-end frameworks, preferably ReactJSRelevant experience with cloud & orchestration technologies (AWS Services, Terraform, HELM, Ansible, etc)
