Software Development Engineering in Test (SDET)

Position Description: This role is hybrid and requires you to be at our downtown Toronto (250 Yonge St, Toronto) and/or Client office at a minimum of 3 days per week - subject to change at any time.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:
• Hands-on Sr. Tester, working with geographically spread teams, interacting with developers, tech leads, and product owners daily.
• Quickly pick up new concepts, add/append to existing automation frameworks, and create manual/automated tests as required.
• Design and develop test plans, test cases (both manual and automated), create/triage, and track defects until closure.
• Participate in defect triage meetings with client stakeholders.
• Perform functional testing, regression testing as required.
• Create and maintain traceability matrices.
• Work on multiple scrum teams simultaneously.
• Expert knowledge of HP ALM, JIRA.
• Hands-on expertise with tools like CA Lisa, Selenium, QTP/UFT, Parasoft SOAtest, SOAP UI.
• Testing experience on web services.
• Conduct smoke testing on test environments and get involved in test environment planning/management.
• Experience working on Agile Scrum teams.
• Perform both manual and automated web services testing.
• Good knowledge of SOAP and REST web services.
• Use the CA LISA/Service Virtualization tool to develop new scripts, modify, and execute them.
• Design, build, and maintain mock services using CA Lisa, Parasoft SOA Test.
• Create and execute SQL queries, run batch jobs, Hadoop jobs.
• Ensure integration of the service virtualization tool with test management and automation tools.
• Participate in code creation, testing, and enhancement activities.
• Identify and prepare test data, manage test data.
• Ensure quality processes and standards are followed.
• Execute/maintain service test scripts per test cycle activities as defined in the test plan.
• Identify, log, and follow-up on all defects encountered.
• Perform additional system testing-related activities as required.
• Communicate progress of testing activities to the Test Manager or directly to the client.
• Contribute to other functional/non-functional testing activities as required.
• Produce “client-facing” and “CGI-internal” status reports as required.
• Participate in lessons learned reviews.
• Participate in pertinent team training activities.
• Maintain a solid understanding of software testing best practices, methodologies, and terminologies.
• Coach and mentor junior resources in the areas of testing and web services.
• Work with the QA leadership team to define metrics and report the status of virtualized assets weekly.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

• Quality Management: Knowledge of quality management methods, tools, and techniques used to create and support an environment that meets the needs of the organization.
• IT Project Management: Knowledge of and experience with tools and techniques for planning, organizing, monitoring, and controlling IT projects.
• Application Delivery Process: Knowledge of major tasks, deliverables, formal methodologies, and disciplines for delivering new or enhanced applications.
• Accuracy/Attention to Detail: Ability to process information with high levels of accuracy.
• Understanding of tools and detailed usage of one or more tools.
Required Level of Education:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and/or Business OR Diploma in IT and/or Business with equivalent IT experience.
• Industry-recognized testing certification(s).
Skills and Experience:
• 7+ years of testing experience.
• 5+ years working in banking, specifically towards retail credit cards testing.
• 5+ years working with JIRA, ALM, Redmine, or other project/test management tools.
• 5+ years working with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• 3+ years experience with SOAP/WSDL and REST-based services.
• Experience with either UFT/QTP, Selenium, CA Lisa, Parasoft SOA Test, or SOAP UI.
• Experience using JSON and XML formats.
• Experience with SQL, working/running batch jobs.
• Prior experience working on Agile Scrum teams.
Purpose of Job: Develop and execute test scenarios/scripts for functional system integration and acceptance testing primarily for single or limited multiple platforms. May include non-functional testing.
Nice to Have:
• Apache JMeter.
• SoapUI.
• Parasoft.
• Selenium for automation.
• Understanding and usage of Atlassian products like Jira, HP Test management tool HP Quality Center.
• Understanding of Azure DevOps.
• Prior Java development experience.
• ISTQB Certified.
• Maven or Gradle experience.
• Test automation experience using Selenium, UFT.
• Test environment planning/managing experience.
