The main purpose of this position/job is to:

The CCDU is a multi- disciplinary team who provide professional supportive services in a welcoming and safe space to Wits students. The team endeavor to facilitate, contribute to and enhance the well-being and self -empowerment of students. The team works across disciplines in an integrated way to offer a holistic service to students. The Unit provides a high standard of services based on an ethos of student-centeredness, inclusivity, and human rights.

The CCDU team offer students:

Individual and group counselling.
Career counselling and development.
Psycho-educative workshops, training, and advocacy programmes.
HIV education, advocacy, and support.
Volunteer peer advocacy on social justice, mental health, and HIV.
Peer mentorship training.
Graduate recruitment.
The Journey to Employability.
Professional internships.

The scope of this position includes primarily counselling (individual and group) and mental wellness advocacy with Wits undergraduate and post-graduate students.
The incumbent in this position would predominantly contribute to three of the strategic priorities of the Mental Wellness Strategy:
o Enhancement Of Access to Professional Counselling Services/Interventions
o Promotion of Psychological and Emotional Wellbeing.
o Enhancement Of Collaborative Programmes and Initiatives to Promote a Culture of Support and Belonging.

Brief DescriptionKey responsibilities include the following:

Counselling: To offer short term individual and group counselling /debriefing as required to students.
Crisis intervention and crisis management.
Advocacy for mental health and wellness: To Design and as part of the team, to implement collaborative preventative initiatives; psycho-educative
programmes training, facilitation and monitoring of holistic mental health and wellness advocacy programmes, for the student community.


Required Academic Qualification/s, competences, and experience.

Honours Degree (Social Work or equivalent degree essential).
Registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP).
3 5 years experience in counselling (short term individual and group).
Experience in development and implementation of mental health and wellness advocacy programmes for student metal health and wellness.
Excellent professional skills and experience to co-ordinate, organize and implement life skills workshops, programmes, and presentations.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Ability to liaise effectively and professionally, with a wide range of people e.g., colleagues, managers, scholars, students, faculty staff, internally and
outside the university. Occasional after-hours workshops/presentations on campus and in Residences.
Computer literacy.
Report writing, editing and research skills.


Preferences

Experience in working in the above areas at a Higher Educational Institution would be an advantage.
