De Beers Technology has operations in both Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa and is part of the De Beers Group. We deliver technical services and technology systems to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the De Beers Diamond value chain from exploration to diamond recovery. Activities include marine geophysical survey, sampling, mining, projects, engineering, technology development and maintenance. We provide specialized diamond processing and recovery technology for the De Beers Group Exploration and Mining Operations. We are the industry leader in marine mining practices resulting in the most successful and advanced marine mining equipment and operations globally.  

The Company has an excellent record in successful project delivery which with over 140 projects delivered in the last 22 years focused on the establishment and development of a fleet of sampling and mining ships and all associated equipment. On the base of this successful track record, we have a strategic intention to expand our project offering to De Beers land-based operations.

Job Description

This role reports into a Project Manager or Senior Project Manager

The incumbent will be responsible for all project engineering functions and activities associated with safety, engineering, planning, scheduling, procurement, risk management, reporting, construction, budget estimating and control during both study and execution phases in line with De Beers project procedures. There may be a requirement to manage and co-ordinate the activities of small project teams and 3rd party service providing companies. The incumbent will be required to plan, engineer and execute projects within time, cost, resource and budget constraints, through all project phases in line with De Beers project procedures.

 Your role will include:

Financial EffectivenessEstablish and manage project financial budgets to deliver in line with project requirements.Deliver projects and studies within authorized budgets and cash flow.Engineering Design and Analysis EffectivenessManage, guide (and perform) the execution of systems and equipment specification and design including documentation, data packs and review.Technical Consultancy EffectivenessProvide technical consulting services to the operations and disciplines in the area of specialization.Project Engineering EffectivenessIdentify and develop specifications and standards for systems and equipmentTranslate requirements into system specificationsDraft scopes of work for procurement of consulting (e.g. design) services, fabrication, quality, physical installations and commissioningAdminister contracts to deliver in line with contractual agreementsAdminister risk management on allocated workReporting (incl. presentation) and report writingCarry out site verification and system commissioningFacilitate system integration, setting to work and handover of systems into new and existing systemsManage project technical documentation and as-built processes People ManagementManage and guide subordinates to achieve individual and team objectives.Effective knowledge transfer and improvement of own value adding capabilityManages and implements knowledge sharing initiatives.Safety, Health, Security and Environmental EffectivenessManages and monitors department’s adherence to applicable legislation, company safety, security and environmental policies, procedures, goals and objectivesEffective stakeholder managementDevelop client/partner relationships to facilitate teamwork and cross functional intra company boundariesClient RelationshipsBuilds relationships across the De Beers Pipeline by sharing business information and knowledge

Qualifications

Formal qualifications:

Recognised Degree/Diploma in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical)

Additional requirements:

6 to 8 years post qualification experience with at least 5 years in project engineering and execution.Experience in multi-disciplinary marine or land based mining projects will be an added advantage but not a prerequisite.Preparedness to relocate to other centers as and when necessary
